Google Maps is the most used map application in the country, and most of us use it when traveling to new places. In most cases, Google Maps helps us reach our destinations easily. However, there have been incidents where Google Maps has caused people to drive in places where they eventually get stuck or end up in a life-threatening situation. Recently, one such situation was averted by two riders after they saw that the road ahead was under construction.

Google Maps almost caused another fatal accident

The video showing how Google Maps misled two riders into riding on a half-completed road has been shared on Instagram by Raghurider on their page. This short clip starts with two riders—one on a Suzuki V-Strom SX Adventure motorcycle and one on a Kawasaki Ninja 650—riding on an empty road. It then shows that they immediately slow down their bikes after spotting an unfinished patch of road.

We can hear that the rider abuses Google Maps and highlights that if they had been traveling during the night, they would have died. It can be seen that there is a massive unfinished patch on the road on the side of a huge trench. The road on the other side was constructed; however, it can be noted that this was not a road that is currently being used.

The rider then tells his riding buddy that they would have suffered the same fate as the previous Google Maps error incident, which took place at the same time last year in Bihar. It has to be mentioned that the incident he is referring to took place in Uttar Pradesh, where three occupants in a Maruti Suzuki WagonR ended up plunging into the Ramganga river.

All three occupants died on the spot after their car fell off a bridge that was under construction on the Bareilly-Budaun border. This particular incident took place during the night when it was dark and the road ahead could not be seen. Thankfully, in the case of the bikers above, they had the visibility to note the unfinished patch before they rode on it.

Where did this incident take place?

The rider in the post has not highlighted where exactly this unfinished patch of road was encountered by them. However, the rider and his friend are on an adventure ride. In the clip, we can note that there were no warning signs or any other type of signage that would highlight that there was construction work being done on this particular road.

The above-mentioned incidents are a few of the many unfortunate ones that take place frequently in India. Earlier in June of this year, another incident was reported from Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, on the Gorakhpur-Sonauli Highway, where a Hyundai Verna sedan ended up hanging mid-air off an under-construction flyover.

What happened was that the driver of this Hyundai Verna was driving during the night on the road while following Google Maps. He mentioned that the map did not show that the bridge was under construction, and due to this, he drove on it. He then came close to the part where there was no flyover, and as he was late, he could not fully stop the car on time, which caused it to hang off mid-air.

Thankfully, all occupants of this sedan managed to escape without any major injuries and were able to climb out of the car with effort. It was reported that after locals heard the crash, they arrived at the spot. The police were then informed, but by the time police arrived, the occupants of the car had already left the spot.
