Kerala Police Get 16 New Ather Rizta Electric Scooters For City Patrolling [Video]

Electric vehicles are gaining popularity in India, and in the two-wheeler segment we see several new models getting launched lately. Ather was one of the first brands in the country to come up with an electric scooter that was developed from scratch. Over the years, they expanded their operations from Bengaluru to other parts of the country. Recently, Kerala Police also took delivery of not one but 16 new Ather Rizta scooters for their city patrolling purposes.
The video has been shared by towermafia on their Instagram page. In this video, the vlogger spots a group of police officers gathered on the roadside in Kerala’s Kochi. Outside an Ather dealership, several Ather Rizta scooters were lined up for deliveries.
When the vlogger asked, he was told that Kerala Police, as part of their new initiative, is buying 16 new Ather Rizta electric scooters for patrolling duties. We see many officers waiting for the formalities to get over so that they can experience riding the new scooter.
This is not the first time Kerala Police has shown their interest in electric vehicles. Before this, Kerala Motor Vehicles Department had bought several Tata Nexon EVs for patrolling duties. In fact, they were among the first government agencies to induct so many EVs.
Just like the Nexon EVs, the newly bought Ather Rizta scooters are also part of the Kerala government’s Safe Roads and Green Policing initiative. The newly bought electric scooters will be used by officers stationed in local police stations for patrolling duties in the area.
Riding an electric scooter is eco-friendly and at the same time will help the officers save a lot of fuel. They won’t have to drive their official jeeps everywhere, and these scooters also have lower running costs when compared to regular two-wheelers.
It looks like the newly bought 16 Ather Rizta scooters will be distributed among the local police stations and will be used for city patrolling. All the scooters bought by the force are finished in the Deep Blue colour. We also see police stickers on the front windshield area.
The Ather Rizta was actually launched in the market last year, and it gained popularity among buyers in a short span of time.
In fact, Ather managed to sell over 1 lakh units of Rizta scooters within a year of its launch. It is a family scooter with more than sufficient under-seat storage and a decent riding range. The Rizta scooter prices start at Rs 75,999 and go all the way up to Rs 1.56 lakh, ex-showroom. It is powered by a 4.3 kWh battery pack that offers a claimed riding range of anywhere between 123 km to 159 km.
Apart from the Ather Rizta, Kerala Police is known to have a bunch of different vehicles like Toyota Innova, Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Bolero Invader, Maruti Jimny, and Force Gurkha 3-door SUVs for stations in regions like Idukki.
