The 2025 Bajaj Dominar 400 has begun arriving at dealerships across India, signalling an imminent launch for the updated power cruiser. Spotted in showrooms with fresh upgrades, this marks the first substantial refresh for Bajaj’s flagship motorcycle in years. The new model retains its touring-focused DNA while adding modern tech and subtle design tweaks, aiming to stay competitive in the growing 400cc segment dominated by recent entrants like the Triumph Speed 400 and KTM 390 Duke.

A Tech-First Transformation

The most striking update is the fully digital instrument cluster, borrowed directly from Bajaj’s Pulsar NS400Z. This replaces the ageing dual-screen setup, eliminating the secondary fuel-tank display in favour of a single, Bluetooth-enabled unit. Riders now get smartphone connectivity for call/SMS alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, and real-time ride statistics.

The left-side switchgear has been redesigned with a D-pad controller, mirroring the Pulsar’s layout for intuitive menu navigation. Where the tank-mounted display once sat, Bajaj has added a practical USB charging port – a small but thoughtful upgrade for long-distance touring.

Understated Mechanical Tweaks

While the 373.3cc liquid-cooled engine retains its 39.4 bhp and 35 Nm outputs, it now complies with stricter BS6 Phase 2 OBD-2B emission norms effective from April 2025. Though performance figures remain unchanged, the update likely involves revised fuel mapping and catalytic converters. Industry observers suggest the Dominar might adopt the Pulsar NS400Z’s ride-by-wire throttle, potentially enabling multiple riding modes (Road/Rain/Sport/Off-road) and switchable traction control. However, Bajaj hasn’t confirmed these features yet, leaving room for speculation until the official unveiling.

Design & Practicality

Visually, the 2025 Dominar stays true to its muscular “power cruiser” identity. The signature twin-pod LED headlamp, dual-tone alloy wheels, and ergonomic split seats carry over unchanged. Touring accessories like the tall windscreen, radiator guard, and pillion backrest remain standard – a nod to Bajaj’s understanding of the bike’s core audience. As Autocar India noted in a past review, these factory-fitted extras save owners from aftermarket hassles while maintaining warranty compliance. The riding posture continues to favour relaxed highway cruising over aggressive cornering, with a slightly forward-leaning stance that Team-BHP users praise for all-day comfort.

Market Positioning & Expectations

Priced around ₹2.3-2.35 lakh (ex-showroom), the updated Dominar 400 faces stiff competition. While it undercuts the Triumph Speed 400 (₹2.33 lakh) and KTM 390 Duke (₹2.87 lakh), rivals offer more premium branding and advanced electronics. Bajaj’s counterplay relies on the Dominar’s established touring credentials – a 13-litre fuel tank delivering 32+ kmpl, proven reliability, and widespread service network. The Domnar 400 strikes a good balance between heft and usability. It’s heavy enough to hug the road at high speeds yet manageable in city traffic – a rare balance in this segment.

Dealers suggest bookings will open shortly, with deliveries expected by May 2025. The motorcycle’s success hinges on how buyers perceive its value proposition against flashier alternatives. For touring enthusiasts prioritising substance over style, the Dominar 400’s latest iteration might just hit the sweet spot between performance, practicality, and price.
