Globally, the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure is available in multiple variants, including R, X, Enduro R, and Supermoto. Each variant caters to specific rider preferences. The R version is designed for hardcore off-road adventures, while the X variant delivers a more road-oriented experience.

Design and Features

The previous 390 was based on a reworked Duke platform and the same could be felt in many areas. The new motorcycle, however, is based on an all-new chassis and gets better hardware at large. It even adopts a new design direction with highlights including a raised front fender, a tall windscreen, a single-piece seat, a vertically stacked LED headlamp with DRLs, auxiliary lights, a fully digital instrument cluster and raised handlebars.

Engine and Performance

Powering the new 390 Adventure is the same 399cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that also does duty on the outgoing Duke 390. This if you would recollect, is an all-new engine and differs from the previous generation Duke’s mill in multiple aspects. The power and torque here are 46hp and 40Nm respectively. The motorcycle gets a 6-speed gearbox with bi-directional quick-shifters.

The most important highlight of the gen-3 Duke’s engine was its higher displacement of 398.63 cc. At the time when it was launched, it had the highest power and torque figures in the sub-400cc segment, and it had 2hp and 2Nm more than the previous Duke. Plus, the map was set in a way that a massive chunk of the power came in at low revs. This would give it a quicker acceleration.

This engine, when put on the Adventure 390, could be tweaked to better suit off-road stints. It could come with a different torque curve. It is expected to deliver better performance than the previous gen ADV 390.

Suspension and Wheels

The Adventure X variant gets 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoked alloy wheels, while the Adventure R rides on a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel for improved stability on rugged terrains. The R also has a higher seat height of 885 mm! ( Did someone say planted foot?). The X variant, however, has a much more hospitable height of 825mm.

The suspension duties are carried out by WP forks at the front and an offset rear mono-shock. This gives the terrain-handling abilities a boost. The travel on the X variant is 200mm while the R comes with 230mm of travel and fully adjustable components. Both wheels get disc brakes with strong stopping power and proper bites.

What’s Common Between The Variants?

The edgy bodywork, projector LED headlights, tall windscreen, knuckle guards, front beak, semi-fairing, fuel tank design and the 399cc single are common across variants. Most of the other components and/or traits differ based on the variant/ iteration chosen.

All Variants Coming To India?

As of now, we expect the 390 Adventure R and Adventure X to make their India entries at the India Bike Week (IBW). It remains unclear if the Austrian brand will introduce the Enduro R and Supermoto in the domestic market. The different iterations of the new 390 Adventure will cater to a wide range of riders, from off-road enthusiasts to those looking for a reliable tourer. The Indian biking community is eagerly awaiting its arrival at India Bike Week 24.
