Forests have belonged to wild animals; however, over the years, humans have managed to penetrate into the homes of these wild animals. Now, despite this, wild animals still do not interfere with humans, and they do not generally attack them. However, every once in a while, an animal may perceive humans as threats and can charge at them. Recently, in a similar incident, an elephant was seen charging at a biker, which led to the biker falling on the side of the road.

Elephant charges towards bikers

This video of an elephant charging towards a Royal Enfield rider on the road has been shared on Instagram. It comes courtesy of Wayanadan on their page. In this short clip, the biker at the front was recording a video with his Insta360 camera. We can note that he spots an elephant on the right side of the road.

Following this, he salutes the elephant and rides ahead. However, he continues recording and shows the elephant behind him. We can then note that there was a Maruti Suzuki Swift and a Royal Enfield Classic motorcycle with a rider and a pillion on it.

What happened next?

What happens next is that the elephant starts coming towards the road. However, just when the Royal Enfield rider crosses the elephant, it starts charging towards the biker. Due to this, the rider accelerates to avoid getting crushed by the elephant.

At this exact moment, the Swift driver also turns his vehicle slightly to the left. Additionally, there was another Royal Enfield rider ahead of the Swift who was also trying to escape this elephant’s attack. We can then note that there was a scooter rider along with his wife who were coming from the other side of the road.

The scooter rider also sees the charging elephant, and in order to avoid it, he turns his scooter on the road. While doing this, he comes into the other lane, and due to this, the speeding Royal Enfield rider with the pillion rides onto the side of the road to avoid hitting the scooter.

However, due to this, he could not control the bike, and along with his pillion, he goes onto the grass on the side of the road. We can note that he tries to stop the bike on time but was unable to do so. Unfortunately, this ends with the rider and pillion falling on the grass.

Did the elephant attack the fallen rider and pillion?

Unfortunately, the video ends after the Royal Enfield rider and pillion fall, so we do not exactly know if the elephant caught up and attacked them or not. However, most likely, it could have happened that the elephant changed its route and left the biker and the pillion, although this is not confirmed.

Why do elephants charge at humans?

Generally, elephants are very calm animals, and they do not bother humans. However, when they feel threatened, they become defensive, and at this time, they can charge at humans. They sometimes attack to protect their territories. Also, mother elephants can charge to protect their young ones.

Additionally, previous negative experiences can also lead to elephants charging at humans. So it is advised that if a wild elephant is spotted, the driver should either stop at a very safe distance or try to quickly move away from the elephant. This is because, despite their weight, elephants can still run fast and attack cars and bikes.
