Man Pushes Electric Scooter From Karnataka To Goa After Running Out Of Charge [Video]

Electric vehicles are something that the government has been promoting a lot lately. There are several players in both the two-wheeler and four-wheeler EV segments in India now. EVs are slowly gaining popularity, but there are still several challenges that EV owners in India face.
Here, we have a video where a man had to push his electric scooter, which ran out of charge, from Karwar in Karnataka to Goa. The video has been shared by Ingoa24x7 on their Instagram page. In the video, we see a man pushing an electric scooter that ran out of charge on a busy road. The person recording the video stops and asks what happened. The owner explains that the scooter ran out of charge and that he is now stranded. He had to push the scooter from Karwar to Goa, which is almost 20-odd kilometers.
The owner of the scooter mentioned that he pushed the scooter past three petrol pumps but didn’t see any charging stations at any of them. The scooter rider and the person recording the video pointed out that while the government wants to promote EVs and encourage people to buy them, they are not taking adequate steps to improve the charging infrastructure.
While we understand that the charging infrastructure in India is improving and that most metro cities now have charging stations, the situation changes when you leave the city. In many semi-urban, suburban, or rural areas, charging stations are still a problem.
As the owner shared, none of the petrol pumps had a charging station for his scooter. This is what forced him to push the scooter for 20 kilometers. Another issue in many villages is power cuts. The power supply is often disrupted without prior notice, and voltage fluctuations are also common in such areas. All these issues create problems for EV owners.
Most of the comments under this video blame the owner for not being careful and mindful about the charge in the battery. The comment section mentions that it is actually the owner's fault for not charging the scooter fully. The scooter seen in the video appears to be a Chinese model, which is often available in the market at a cheaper rate than branded ones.
These scooters have several problems, and in the past, many users have reported battery-related issues with them. The batteries on such scooters often degrade quickly and discharge rapidly. The charge drops suddenly, leaving the owner with no choice. We assume that something similar happened in this case as well.
These scooters are not meant for long rides, and one should always ensure that there are proper charging stations along their route before starting a long journey. Most of these scooters are designed for city use, where charging stations or power sockets are easily accessible for a full or partial charge in case the battery runs out. Hopefully all these issues in the charging infrastructure and the electric vehicles will be resolved soon so that people have more confidence to buy an EV.
