Cars and bikes fitted with loud exhausts are only fun for the owners. Other people on the road who have to listen to their loud noises do not think that they are amazing. It becomes even more annoying when a group of loud bikes starts making a ruckus on roads. Recently, one such group of loud exhaust bikers was stopped in Goa. Also, the police authorities seized their bikes as well.

Netizens’ reactions

A number of netizens have appreciated this action by police authorities. One of the users commented, “Good job. Keep going, Panjim police; you can track more in Taleigao and roads.” Meanwhile, another user stated, “Panjim police need to take night drive; you will have more bikes with loud silencers.”

In addition to these appreciative comments, a number of netizens have also requested Goa police to take similar actions in South Goa, Bardez, and other popular locations in Goa. Another user mentioned, “Porvorim Art Park side also needs to give attention. Few old-aged people and pregnant women are really getting nuisance.”

Not the first such drive

This is not the first time that Goa police authorities have seized bikes for loud exhausts. Back in February of 2023, Goa police managed to seize around 40 motorcycles with modified exhausts. Also, they registered 45 cases involving these motorcycles.

Margao Traffic Police Cell Head, PI Gautam Salunke, during an interview, stated, “These two-wheelers with the modified silencers have not only violated the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act but have been posing nuisance and pollution to the citizens, including senior citizens.”

Salunke added, “Instructions have been issued to the traffic police officials and staff drafted for duties to impound all motorcycles with modified silencers.” Like the recent seizure, most of the bikes seized in this previous drive also belonged to Royal Enfield.

Loud exhaust nuisance

Over the last few years, the problem of bike riders creating a nuisance with their modified exhausts has been increasing. Along with Goa, a number of other cities, including Pune, Allahabad, Shivamogga, Hyderabad, and others, have initiated similar drives.

In most of these cities, after seizing the bikes with such exhausts, they are taken off. Following this, all of these modified exhausts are laid on the road, and a road roller is used to crush them. All of this takes place on busy public roads so that other people can be discouraged from adding modified exhausts to their bikes.

The biggest drive took place in Pune, where authorities managed to crush 571 modified exhausts. Also, Pune police went a step further and issued a new WhatsApp number for the citizens of their city. They stated that if anyone has a complaint regarding a loud exhaust, they can immediately send their complaints on this dedicated number, and quick action will be taken.
