Honda has entered the 125cc sporty motorcycle segment with the launch of the CB 125 Hornet, priced at Rs 1.12 lakh ex-showroom in Gurgaon. This marks the highest price point for any Honda 125cc motorcycle in India and comes with a clear focus on performance. According to Honda, the bike can accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in 5.4 seconds, setting a new benchmark in its class.

The CB 125 Hornet uses the same 123.94cc engine seen on the SP 125 and Shine 125. However, this version has been specially tuned to deliver 11 BHP at 7,500 rpm and 11.2 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The powertrain is paired with a five-speed gearbox, providing flexibility across a range of riding conditions. The engine uses a 10.0:1 compression ratio and meets BS6-2.0 emissions standards with its fuel-injected setup.

Technology and Features Set New Benchmark

The CB 125 Hornet separates itself from Honda’s existing 125cc models by offering a range of features not seen in this segment. The centrepiece is a 4.2-inch TFT display, a rare inclusion in the 125cc space.

This unit supports Bluetooth connectivity via Honda’s RoadSync app, allowing for turn-by-turn navigation, SMS and call alerts, music control, and weather updates. A USB Type-C charging port is also part of the standard equipment.

Another key highlight is the suspension system. Unlike traditional telescopic forks seen in most commuter bikes, the CB 125 Hornet gets golden upside-down forks at the front, claimed to be a segment-first. At the rear, the motorcycle features a five-step adjustable monoshock, enhancing ride comfort and stability.

Strong Focus on Safety and Control

Braking duties are handled by a 240mm petal disc up front and a drum brake at the rear. A single-channel ABS system is included as standard, offering added safety for riders. The bike rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, ensuring better grip and ease of maintenance.

Design-wise, the CB 125 Hornet draws heavily from its bigger siblings in Honda’s international lineup. It gets a compact LED headlamp with integrated DRLs, high-mounted LED indicators, and a muscular fuel tank with sporty shrouds. A stepped seat and upswept exhaust add to its visual appeal.

Honda’s Premium Play

Honda is offering the CB 125 Hornet in four colour options: Pearl Siren Blue with Lemon Ice Yellow, Pearl Igneous Black, Pearl Siren Blue with Athletic Blue Metallic, and Pearl Siren Blue with Sports Red. In a nod to premium design cues, the ignition key slot is positioned on the fuel tank, similar to higher-end models.

This new motorcycle is positioned above the SP 125 and Shine 125 in Honda’s portfolio. The most direct rival appears to be the Hero Xtreme 125R, which also claims 11.24 BHP at 8,250 rpm. However, the Hornet’s lower rpm power peak could offer a better ride in urban traffic and mid-range performance.

Bookings for the CB 125 Hornet will open on August 1, with deliveries expected shortly after. Honda is clearly targeting buyers looking for a more refined, powerful, and feature-loaded 125cc motorcycle without stepping up to a 150cc bike.
