Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has announced a voluntary recall for all CRF1100L Africa Twin motorcycles manufactured between 2019 and 2025. The campaign addresses an electrical issue in the left handlebar switch wiring that could affect horn function and headlight beam switching. Repairs will begin from late January 2026 at Honda BigWing Topline dealerships, free of charge for all owners.

Wiring Problem Identified

The fault lies in the harness wire connected to the left switchgear. With normal steering movement, this wire bends repeatedly, and over time the terminals can oxidise. This reduces electrical conduction, leading to non-functional horns or difficulty toggling between low and high beam. The symptoms tend to appear gradually, which could leave riders unaware of the problem until it worsens.

The issue spans six years of Africa Twin production, showing the wiring layout remained unchanged through multiple updates. Honda has not shared the number of affected bikes in India, though volumes are expected to be manageable given the niche litre-class adventure segment.

Repairs and Customer Outreach

Honda will replace the wiring harness components on all affected motorcycles, irrespective of warranty status or service history. Customers will be contacted through calls, emails, and SMS messages to book appointments. Owners can also check their motorcycle’s recall status by entering the Vehicle Identification Number on the official BigWing website.

BigWing Topline dealerships will carry out the repairs once parts are available. The recall officially starts in January 2026, giving Honda time to prepare components and train service staff to handle the campaign efficiently.

Why It Matters

The recall deals with safety-critical features. A non-working horn can compromise rider safety during emergency situations, while malfunctioning headlight beam switches can create visibility issues on poorly lit roads. Both functions are vital for safe motorcycle operation in Indian conditions.

This is the second recall for the Africa Twin in recent years. In late 2024, Honda recalled certain units to fix ECU programming on throttle response that could trigger unexpected wheelie control. The new wiring campaign shows Honda is actively addressing issues across different systems as they arise.

Africa Twin in Context

The Africa Twin sits at the top of Honda’s adventure motorcycle lineup in India. Powered by a 1,048cc parallel-twin engine producing 100.5 bhp and 112 Nm, it comes with either a six-speed manual or Honda’s DCT dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The bike is well known for its electronics, offering multiple riding modes, traction control, and a TFT display. These systems depend on reliable wiring, which highlights why the fault is being taken seriously.

The Africa Twin has built a reputation among touring riders for comfort, long-distance ability, and Honda’s reliability. However, with more electronic features packed into modern motorcycles, wiring and electrical recalls are becoming more common across the industry.
