Kawasaki KLX 230 Price Dropped by Rs 1.30 lakh: Now Available At Hero XPulse 210 Prices!

Affordable off-road bikes are gaining ground in the Indian market. The Kawasaki KLX 230 went on sale here, in December 2024. It, however, had a hefty price tag of Rs 3.33 lakh (ex-showroom), which led to limited acceptance. In a surprising move, Kawasaki has now slashed its prices heavily. Up to 1.3 lakh rupees has now been shaved off, bringing the ex-showroom price to just Rs 1.99 lakh. At this price, the KLX 230 packs immense value. It now sits close to the Hero XPulse 210 with its price, and the Indian will face much heat now.
Kawasaki will now manufacture the KLX 230 locally in India. This has led to the price reduction. Previously, it was brought in via CBU (completely built-up). The company says that nothing other than the production has changed. The motorcycle remains mechanically the same as before and has all of its key traits intact. At the new price, it remains a terrific buy.
The KLX 230 is a capable dual-sport motorcycle with impressive off-road performance. It is now the light, rugged Japanese dual-sport motorcycle that many wish to own. The new bike looks slightly different with its revised decals and comes with the same colour options as before: Lime Green and Battle Gray.
The KLX 230 excels with its power-to-weight ratio. It weighs just 139 kilos and comes with an engine which can produce 17.8bhp. The seat height here is 880 mm. This can be challenging for shorter riders. The company, however, sells a shorter seat accessory which can bring this down to 866 mm. The fuel tank is sleek and has a capacity of 7.6 litres.
The bike rides on spoke wheels- 21-inch at the front and 18-inch at the rear, shod with dual-purpose tyres. It gets a long travel suspension setup with 37mm gaitered telescopic front forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock. The rear offers 250mm of wheel travel while the front as 240mm. If you’re already wondering, this motorcycle has a ground clearance of 265mm!
As for the brakes, the front gets 265mm discs and the rear has 220mm discs. The bike also comes with dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle features an LCD instrument cluster with integrated smartphone connectivity, call and SMS alerts and a few other features.
Powering the KLX 230 is a 233cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which produces 18bhp and 18.3Nm of torque. Mated to a six-speed transmission, this air-cooled engine is claimed to offer plenty of low-end grunt and a meaty mid-range. These will be of good use on trails.
Kawasaki’s aggressive pricing strategy has placed the KLX230 extremely close to the hot-selling XPulse 210. Launched earlier this year, the Xpulse has an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.75 lakh. It comes in two variants, the higher of which has a price of Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). The Xpulse and the KLX now sit dangerously close and continue to be the biggest rivals of each other.
The Xpulse is powered by a 210cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that has an output of 24.8PS and 20.7Nm. These are more than what the KLX has on offer. However, the real difference is in the power-to-weight ratio. The Xpulse weighs 170 off kilos, notably more than the KLX. This brings about a great difference in the way it rides. The KLX seems to have an advantage here. Furthermore, the Xpulse offers significantly lower wheel travel at both ends, and may not feel as great as the KLX on extreme trails.
