Brand-New KTM 390 Enduro R's Throttle Gets Jammed Leading To A Near-Crash Situation [Video]

KTM has started a new chapter in the Indian motorcycling space with the launch of the 390 Enduro R. The motorcycle shares several of its components and traits with the 390 Adventure, even while maintaining a unique focus on off-road abilities. The ex-showroom price starts at 3.36 lakh rupees, and the Austrian manufacturer recently conducted the official media rides for the vehicle at Prodirt Adventure test tracks. A video from the same has now surfaced, depicting a major flaw that occurred during the event with one of the participant motorcycles. On one of the test tracks, the throttle of this particular unit got jammed and the rider had a narrow escape from a messy crash.
In a video shared by Dinos Vault, we get to see the influencer riding the Enduro R on the first test track. He says it was his warmup lap. Suddenly, we see the motorcycle accelerate and the rider soon regains his situational awareness. He navigates carefully and slightly scratches a nearby motorcycle before killing the engine and making the motorcycle come to a complete stop. It hits a nearby tree, but the crash guard takes the impact. The rider is saved from any injury.
The video also shows him explain the incident. He says that he is fine and the motorcycle's accelerator was jammed. This caused the sudden acceleration and a subsequent loss of control. He then took to social media with a detailed post. The video posted on Instagram had a description that reads:
"KTM Enduro R Throttle Gets Jammed in my 1st warmup Run on the 1st Test Track. My brother in faith, Vipul, whom I almost crashed into. Tried my best to avoid him and crashed into the Tree. Thanks to God for letting the Crash Guard Take the Impact and Save my Knee. Thanks to Dev Venkat for immediately helping me out. The guys at Pro Dirt are like brothers to me. Motorcycling is Risky. You Never Know What's gonna happen Next. Better to Wear Full Gear and Be Prepared."
The India-spec 390 Enduro R differs from the global model on multiple fronts. It comes with the same suspension setup (fully adjustable WP Apex upside-down forks at the front and a mono-shock with preload and rebound adjustability) as the 390 Adventure. The setup offers 200 mm travel at the front and 205 mm at the rear, slightly lower than the global model's numbers. At 177 kg, it is 6 kilos lighter than the Adventure.
The Enduro R stands out with its minimal body work, and off-road focus. It comes equipped with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels, paired with Mitas Enduro Trail tyres. These are tube-type wheels, which are better suited for hardcore off-road use. Both wheels come with disc brakes and there is switchable ABS on offer as well.
The India-spec Enduro R is powered by the same 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that also runs the latest 390 Duke. It delivers 45.3 bhp and 39 Nm of torque. It, however, gets a larger 48-teeth rear sprocket for better low-end torque.
The motorcycle further has a manageable seat height of 860 mm and an impressive ground clearance of 253 mm. Despite being tall, it is designed to handle rough terrains with ease. Feature-wise, it offers full-LED lighting, a 4.2-inch TFT display with Bluetooth, traction control, and two selectable riding modes.
KTM has also confirmed that the global-spec version with 230mm travel will also arrive in India soon. Homologation of the same are expected to be completed in the coming months.
