KTM has launched its big bike range in India, consisting of the 890 Adventure R, 890 Duke R, 1290 Adventure S and KTM 1390 Super Duke R. These were launched alongside the refreshed lineup- and a total of 10 new motorcycles. These will be available at the new KTM flagship stores, limited to 7 cities initially- the first of such will be set up in Bangalore and Pune. The 1290 Adventure S is a road-focused tourer, the 890 Duke is street-naked, and the 890 Adventure R is an off-roader.
890 Duke R

KTM 890 Duke R has an ex-showroom price of Rs 14.50 lakh. The street-naked gets a sharp and aggressive styling. It has an angular LED headlight, aggressive tank extensions, an exposed Aluminium subframe, and a range of bold colour choices. The frame and wheels are painted Orange.
The bike has a tubular steel frame, adjustable WP Apex front fork and a WP mono-shock, 17-inch wheels, two 320mm disc brakes at the front and 240mm units at the rear. Both come with Brembo callipers. The powerhouse is an 890cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin that produces 121 bhp and 99 Nm and comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. This mill is claimed to have a punchy mid-range and strong overall performance.
The bike comes with a lot of rider aids, LED lights, colour TFT display, and electronics. The package includes lean-sensitive traction control, cornering ABS, nine-level TC settings and selectable ride modes-Rain, Street and Sport. There is even an optional Track mode too. The Triumph Street Triple RS is the primary rival of this motorcycle.
890 Adventure R

Priced at Rs. 15.80 lakh (ex-showroom), the Adventure R 890 draws inspiration from the the brand’s Dakar pedigree and has a tall stance. The colourway comprises Orange and White, and the motorcycle gets a muscular bodywork. The ADV gets split LED headlight, boomerang-shaped DRLs and a large visor.
It uses a 43mm front USD forks and a WP Apex monoshock for suspension duties. Both are adjustable units. It also gets twin front and rear single disc brakes and spoke wheels with Pirelli Scorpion STR tyres. The 890 Adventure R is powered by an 889cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled motor that makes 103.2bhp and 100Nm. The six-speed gearbox also comes with a quickshifter and slipper clutch.
Features include a TFT screen, smartphone connectivity and electronic rider aids like cornering ABS, traction control, ride modes, cruise control and off-road ABS settings. It competes with the Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE and the BMW F 900 GS range.
1290 Super Adventure S

The 1290 Super Adventure S is a big, butch adventure motorcycle with a tall stance, that draws power from a 1301cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 158bhp. The transmission on offer is a six-speed unit and there are bi-directional quickshifter and a slipper clutch offered as well. The motorcycle comes with selectable ride modes, traction control, ABS modes including off-road ABS, cruise control and a seven-inch TFT with smartphone connectivity.
The bike gets WP semi-active front USDs and a semi-active rear monoshock, along with 320mm front and 267mm rear disc brakes. The cast Aluminium wheels wear Mitas Terra Force R rubber. With an ex-showroom price of Rs. 22.74 lakh, the Super Adventure S 1290 goes against the likes of BMW R 1300 GS and Ducati Multistrada V4. It is undoubtedly KTM’s flagship ADV in India.
KTM 1390 Super Duke R

At the heart of the 1390 Super Duke R is a newly-developed 1,301cc V-twin that churns out 190hp at 10,000rpm and 145Nm at 8,000rpm. Like the other big bikes, the suspension here comprises WP USD front forks and WP rear monoshock. It gets 320mm and a 240mm disc brakes and has a seat height of 834mm. Key design highlights are sharp LED headlamps, a 17.5-litre tank, pronounced body lines and minimal bodywork. At Rs 22.96 lakh ex-showroom, it is a whole 1.6 lakh cheaper than the Ducati Streetfighter V4. Key rivals include the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS, Ducati Streetfighter V4 S and the BMW S1000 R.
