Indian car and bike drivers are not necessarily known for their obedience to traffic rules. As a result of this, every day, a number of accidents take place on public roads. A lot of times, accidents are avoided as well; however, people do get into verbal fights and ego battles. Recently, a video of one such confrontation between a motorcycle rider and a Maruti Suzuki Baleno driver has been shared online. In this video, the Baleno driver was stopped on the road while he was overtaking. The biker, on the other hand, argued that he could not overtake, and this caused a big verbal fight.
The video of this fight between a biker and a Baleno driver has been shared on X by Roads of Mumbai on their page. In this video clip, what happens is that a motorcycle vlogger was riding in the left lane of a single-lane road. At the same time, a Maruti Suzuki Baleno driver was trying to overtake another car and was coming from the opposite direction.
After this, what happens is that the Baleno driver notices the biker and immediately applies the brakes in order to avoid hitting him. However, instead of moving ahead, the biker stands in the middle of the road and starts cursing at the car driver. On the other hand, the car driver was also not talking politely. He was also abusing the biker.
In the video, it can be heard that the biker was arguing that the car driver should not be overtaking on a single-lane road. The car driver, on the other hand, mentions that he is allowed to overtake on a road with broken lines in the middle. During this argument, the biker can be seen getting threatened by the car driver.
The car driver says that he should stand there till evening and that he'll come back and handle him. The biker, however, was not getting scared and was standing firmly. It can be noted that other car drivers on the road were trying to make these people go away. However, they continued their fight, causing inconvenience to several other road users.
In the video, the car driver then sits in his vehicle and starts driving. The biker, on the other hand, was not moving. So, the car driver brushed off his mirror with the biker and then drove away. Following this, the biker then adds a video clip where he can be seen confirming with a traffic police officer whether such overtaking is allowed on a single-lane road or not.
The police officer mentions that the car driver cannot overtake on a single-lane road. After this, the biker asks him if he could file a complaint against the car driver with the video evidence or not. To this, he replied that yes, he can indeed register a complaint against the car driver.
Before discussing who was at fault in this incident, it has to be noted that in India, overtaking is allowed on roads with a broken or dotted line in the middle. However, to execute a clean overtake, there should be no vehicle coming from the other side, and the driver should use indicators and a horn while making the overtake.
However, it also has to be noted that, in general, the traffic on Indian roads has increased a lot. So, waiting for the other lane to become completely clear before overtaking is not feasible. For this reason, many people do such overtakes. So, in this case, the Baleno driver was not completely wrong. But what was his mistake was that he should not have threatened the biker.
He should have apologized for coming abruptly and causing the biker to suddenly brake. What's more important is that no one was hurt in this incident, but it could have turned into a road rage incident due to the continuous verbal altercation. In such cases, it's best to avoid ego battles, which could cause more damage in the long run.
