Ola Electric has become the first pure-play EV manufacturer in India to roll out one million units from its Tamil Nadu plant. The milestone was achieved in under four years of commercial production, a rapid scale-up that began with the commissioning of the Futurefactory in 2021.

Unlike legacy two-wheeler brands, Ola built a purpose-designed EV facility from scratch for high-volume output. Momentum picked up through 2024, when the company sold more than 4 lakh units and briefly held about 35 percent share of the electric scooter market. In March 2024, monthly sales peaked at 53,647 units, translating to 38 percent share for that month. Converting capacity into retail sales at this pace has been central to hitting the million-unit figure so early.

The S1 scooter family remains the volume driver, with 14 variants priced between ₹65,000 and ₹1.7 lakh. The S1 Pro, with a 4 kWh battery and a claimed 142 km range, continues to be the most popular variant.

To mark the production milestone, Ola revealed a special edition Roadster X+ finished in midnight blue with red accents on the seat, rims, and battery pack. Badges made from recycled copper and electroplated bar-ends underline the brand’s sustainability theme.

Ola has also introduced models using its 4680 Bharat Cell technology. The S1 Pro+ with a 5.2 kWh pack is priced at ₹1,69,999, while the Roadster X+ with a 9.1 kWh pack costs ₹1,89,999. Deliveries for both begin in October. The S1 Pro Sport brings the brand into the sports-scooter space with 5.2 kWh and 4 kWh options, priced at ₹1,49,999, with deliveries scheduled from January 2026.

The Roadster X motorcycle, launched earlier in 2025, is Ola’s first commuter motorcycle. It claims 11 kW peak power, a 125 km/h top speed, and up to 501 km range, and is positioned as a lower running-cost alternative to petrol bikes.

Competition and Supply Chain Checks

Ola’s early lead has faced pressure from traditional players. Since April 2025, TVS and Bajaj have overtaken Ola in monthly EV volumes, even as Ola remains ahead on cumulative production with the million-unit mark. The competitive field is more active than before, with faster product refreshes and wider retail networks from established brands.

The sector has also navigated supply constraints. Restrictions on rare-earth exports from China in mid-2025 affected motor production. Ola responded by adopting alternative magnet technology and maintained deliveries, selling nearly 18,000 units in August despite the disruption.

For consumers, the milestone signals maturity in India’s EV two-wheeler space. A manufacturer dedicated to electric vehicles has shown it can scale, refresh products, and introduce new tech at a brisk cadence. The current line-up spans value-oriented scooters, a performance-leaning sports scooter, and a commuter motorcycle, giving buyers more choice across price bands and use cases.

The updates around the 4680 Bharat Cell packs point to higher-density batteries arriving in mainstream models. Limited editions like the Roadster X+ add exclusivity for early adopters, while continued focus on in-house component development suggests tighter control over quality and availability.

Crossing the one million mark establishes Ola as the first domestic EV maker to scale production at this pace. It also reflects the growing maturity of India’s EV market and signals that dedicated EV companies can compete with established manufacturers when technology and demand align.
