Ola Electric has announced major price cuts on its flagship two-wheelers, the S1 Pro Plus scooter and Roadster X Plus motorcycle, as part of its Sankalp 2025 event on 15 August. These represent some of the steepest reductions seen in India’s premium electric two-wheeler market, timed to drive festive season demand.

The S1 Pro Plus has received a permanent ₹30,000 cut, bringing its price down from ₹1.99 lakh to ₹1.69 lakh. The Roadster X Plus has dropped even more sharply, by ₹36,000, with its price reduced from ₹2.25 lakh to ₹1.89 lakh.

Indigenous Battery Production Lowers Costs

The reduction has been made possible by Ola’s shift to indigenously manufactured 4680 Bharat Cell batteries, which replace the imported cells previously used. Production will begin in September 2025 at the Tamil Nadu Gigafactory, with integration first in the S1 Pro Plus and Roadster X Plus.

The 4680 Bharat Cells offer higher energy density and better thermal management compared with earlier designs. By producing them domestically, Ola expects lower costs, fewer supply chain risks, and reduced reliance on foreign suppliers. This marks a notable development for India’s EV industry, which has so far depended heavily on imported battery technology.

Performance Figures Remain Strong

Despite the reduced prices, both models continue to offer strong performance. The S1 Pro Plus comes in two battery variants. The 5.3kWh version claims 320km range on IDC testing and 141kmph top speed, while the 4kWh version offers 242km range and 128kmph maximum speed. Both are powered by 13kW motors, with the larger pack variant accelerating from 0 to 40kmph in just 2.1 seconds.

The Roadster X Plus remains Ola’s premium motorcycle with a 9.1kWh battery claiming 501km IDC range. It delivers 11kW peak power and 58Nm torque, achieving 0–40kmph in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 125kmph. Charging times remain the same as before, with the S1 Pro Plus requiring about 8.4 hours for a full charge of its larger battery.

Both models continue to feature connected technologies such as smartphone integration, over-the-air updates, navigation support, and advanced safety aids like ABS, regenerative braking, and multiple riding modes.

What's The Competition Like?

These price cuts make the S1 Pro Plus more competitive against rivals such as the Ather 450 Apex, Bajaj Chetak, and TVS iQube ST in the premium electric scooter category. The Roadster X Plus, meanwhile, faces limited direct competition in the electric motorcycle segment, allowing Ola to strengthen its foothold as the category grows.

By lowering entry prices, Ola hopes to extend sales beyond major urban centres to smaller cities and towns, where cost sensitivity remains higher and EV adoption is slower. Deliveries for both models will begin on 22 November 2025, coinciding with Navratri, a period traditionally associated with new purchases.

Market share over profits?

While the shift to domestic batteries helps cut costs, the scale of the price reductions suggests Ola may be prioritising market share over immediate profitability. The company’s public market status and investor expectations put pressure on it to demonstrate growth, which may explain the aggressive strategy.

Ola has also revealed future plans alongside the new pricing. The S1 Pro Sport, a higher-spec scooter with 16kW motor and 152kmph top speed, has been priced at ₹1.49 lakh, with deliveries starting January 2026. A preview of the Diamondhead superbike, targeted for launch in 2027 at ₹5 lakh, indicates Ola’s ambitions to expand across segments. Additionally, its MoveOS 6 software update will roll out in early 2026, adding driver-assist features such as collision warnings and adaptive cruise control.
