Ola Electric launched its first electric motorcycle- the Roadster X in India, in February this year. The deliveries and test rides, however, began in late May. The company seems to have packaged the motorcycle well, and the range claims vary from 140 to 252 km per charge depending on the variant and battery pack chosen. The YouTube channel Classic Gears has now shared a complete range test video of the Roadster X with 2.5 kWh battery pack. This test could be particularly significant, as this variant stands quite accessible with a sub-1 lakh price tag.

The video starts by showing the battery levels- at the start of this ride, the vehicle seems to have full charge (100%) and an indicated range of 119 km, 93 km and 81 km in the Eco, Normal and Sport modes respectively. In the video, the EV is ridden in both Eco and Normal modes, and with a pillion.

Later in the video, we can see the rider racking up kilometers and the battery levels dropping. Interestingly, the first three kilometers of riding consumed 4% battery. In the first five kilometers, we see the charge levels reach 94% indicating a total drop of six percent. The charge fell to 89% when the vehicle covered 10 kilometres. It was still in the Eco mode and was ridden through proper roads. We soon see the rider take it to an unpaved road, and attempt some adventurous riding on uneven patches.

We soon see the motorcycle cover 45 kilometres. The battery then stood at 65%. The rider seems to have engaged the cruise control for maximising energy efficiency. The indicated range at this point is 60 km.

Even when it completed 60 kilometres, this Roadster X had 34% battery left and an indicated range of 34 km. The EV was doing a speed of 60 kph. This speed seems to be draining the battery faster. Once the battery level drops below 20%, we see the Roadster X lock into the Eco riding mode. The indicated range at this point is 16 km. The cruise control also seems to have been deactivated.

Having covered a total distance of 80 kilometres, we see the charge levels standing at 7%. The indicated range is just 5 km. In the next few seconds, we see the vehicle run completely out of charge (charge levels standing at an indicated 2%). The total distance covered until this point in time is 83 kilometres.

The Roadster X has a naked streetfighter-like design with slim body panels and mnodern styling. The LED headlights too are sleek and come with integrated LED DRLs. The handlebar has been designed and positioned with a strong focus on ergonomics. The seat is a single-piece unit and the vehicle comes with a chunky grab handle for the pillion.

Ola offers three battery packs on the Roadster X- 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh. These batteries use Ola's in-house developed Bharat 4680 cells, which claim great packaging and energy efficiencies. The top-spec 3.5kWh variant has a claimed IDC range of 252 km per charge.

The 2.5 kWh battery version has a 9.4 hp electric motor and can do the 0-40 kph sprint in just 3.1 seconds. The top speed here is a good 118 kph.

The manufacturer is also offering the more capable Roadster X Plus which features a 14.8 hp electric motor and can do the 0-40kph run in just 2.7 seconds.
