Prior to this, a total of 571 aftermarket silencers were crushed by Pune police, and strict actions were taken against the owners of these modified bikes.

The video showing the crushing of these aftermarket silencers has been shared on X by Pune Pulse on their page. In this short video, we can note that a road roller was crushing the silencers seized by the police authorities. All of the 542 modified silencers were lined up in three lines at the Police Headquarters ground and then destroyed.

As per the authorities, this was done to show that there will be strict repercussions for those creating noise pollution in the city. In addition to this, it has also been reported that in the crackdown drive that began on January 1st and concluded on April 10th, a total of 4,853 violators were booked for unauthorised vehicle modifications.

In total, a fine of Rs 48.49 lakh was collected from these offenders, which is around Rs 1,000 per violator. Vishwajeet Khule, Inspector of the Nigdi Traffic Division, watched over the event of the silencer crushing that took place recently.

Not the first such crackdown

This is not the first time that this crackdown on Royal Enfield motorcycle riders has taken place. Last year, it was reported that authorities seized a total of 571 illegal loud and polluting silencers and then crushed them with a road roller to warn other people of these illegal modifications.

The authorities also issued a new WhatsApp number through which people can directly report their complaints about modified silencers. Numerous bikes, including Bullets, Classic 350s and 500s, and some Thunderbird motorcycles, were seized by the authorities.

In addition to these, 571 aftermarket silencers were also seized, and they were crushed by a road roller. Pune police and transport department authorities have also initiated a whistleblower program. Under this program, they are urging citizens to report instances of modified exhaust systems, particularly those emitting excessive noise.

Prior to this, a total of 1,000 vehicles with modified exhausts were also seized in Hyderabad as well. Hyderabad police authorities also crushed all of these silencers to share a strong message with other citizens who may have installed these noise-creating silencers. Similarly, in Goa, Margao as well, the police authorities seized around 40 motorcycles and registered 45 cases related to illegal modifications.

MNS workers slapped Bullet riders

Just a few weeks ago, a video became viral on the internet. What happened was that two men were riding their Royal Enfield motorcycle with an aftermarket silencer. The exhaust note of this bike was irritating others as it was too loud. It was then noted that a few MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) members stopped these bikers, and after some conversation, they started slapping them.

Sachin Chikhale, Pimpri-Chinchwad City President of MNS, while talking to the media, said, “Noise pollution has increased in the city. Roadside Romeos create a lot of disturbance with their modified Bullet silencers, causing a nuisance to citizens, especially women. This is not part of our culture.”
