Royal Enfield Classic 650 Launched In India, Price Starts At Rs 3.37 Lakh

Royal Enfield has launched the highly anticipated Classic 650 in the Indian market, priced in the range of Rs 3.37-3.5 lakh, ex-showroom. The prices differ as per the variant and the colours. There are three variants on offer- Hotrod, Classic, and Chrome. The starting prices of these are 3.37 lakh, 3.41 lakh and 3.50 lakh respectively.
The motorcycle was revealed at the Motoverse event in Goa last year, where the manufacturer had abstained from announcing the prices. Before this debut, it was shown at EICMA in Milan.
It sits below the Shotgun 650 with its price and is based on the same.- the Shotgun now has an ex-showroom price that goes up to 3.84 lakh rupees in India.
The Classic 650 is based on the familiar 650 platform, and gets the same 648cc parallel-twin engine that also does duty on the Super Meteor, Shotgun 650, Bear 650, Continental GT and the Interceptor. Tieing it closer to the familiar Classic (350) is the design and key cues like the teardrop-shaped fuel tank.
The design is a bold fusion of timeless charm and contemporary cues. With a broad stance and muscular proportions, it exudes a strong road presence while staying true to the retro roots. It gets an OG Classic-inspired LED headlamp, Tiger lamps, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, wire-spoked wheels, twin chrome-finished exhausts, a round front fender, and a curvy, wide rear fender.
These, combined with a robust frame, make the new Classic 650 all the more appealing. Four colours are available: Teal, Vallum Red, Bruntingthorpe Blue, and Black Chrome. The Bruntingthorpe Blue and Vallam Red come in the Hotrod variant, Teal in the Classic trim and the Black Chrome in the range-topping Chrome variant.
Though the stock bike is a single-seater, Royal Enfield would offer a pillion seat as an optional accessory.
Powering the Classic 650 is the familiar 648cc parallel-twin engine, producing 46.3 bhp and 52.3 Nm of peak torque. This tried-and-tested unit has already won over riders worldwide for its strong mid-range performance and refined characteristics. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.
The bike gets 43mm Showa front forks and twin rear shocks that offer 90 mm of travel. Both ends get disc brakes and there is a dual-channel ABS offered as well. The motorcycle gets 19-inch front wheels and 18-inch units at the rear.
The 650cc platform is already popular among mid-capacity motorcycle buyers globally. The Classic 650's kerb weight stands at 243 kilos- not light by any standards. It is in fact, the heaviest motorcycle in Royal Enfield's current lineup.
The motorcycle comes with adjustable levers, an analogue instrument cluster with a digital display, a USB charging port, and the Tripper navigation system.
The Classic has been a very successful nameplate for Royal Enfield. We have had Classic 350 and 500 in the past. With the advent of the J-platform, the range shrunk to Classic 350 alone. Even today, the Classic 350 remains Royal Enfield's most-sold model.
Now, the 650 has become the new flagship in the range. The company has plans to sell it in markets like Europe, the UK, and North America, along with establishing a strong domestic footprint.
