Royal Enfield Flying Flea Electric Motorcycle Spied Ahead Of Official EICMA Reveal

Royal Enfield has long been working on an electric motorcycle which would become its first when launched. The prototypes were previously spied on test. New spy shots have now surfaced from Barcelona, Spain. These indicate the launch to be not-so-distant. The official debut is scheduled for the 4th of November 2924.
These images were reportedly taken earlier this month and show the near-production form of the EV being ridden by RE’s Siddhartha Lal. The electric Royal Enfield is seen being ridden through the streets of Barcelona. It seems the first electric motorcycle from the Indian brand will be for the cities. A few days ago, Royal Enfield teased us with a video of the upcoming EV. The new set of spy pictures comes ahead of the product’s EICMA debut.
One, it is a milestone product for the manufacturer. Two, the teaser shows the silhouette of a motorcycle being airdropped- isn’t it too suggestive? During WW2, the Royal Enfield Flying Flea motorcycles used to be parachuted down behind enemy lines, just the way you see it in the teaser.
Considering the cues and suggestions depicted in the video and analysing the newest spy shots, the first EV from Royal Enfield could have a strong influence of the legendary Flying Flea from the WW2 era, in its design. The WD/RE125 ‘Flying Flea’ bikes had great roles to play in the troop movement during the Second World War.
Key design cues that are visible in the leaked image are a curved tank, chromed side mirrors, girder forks, a round headlight, pillion-foot pegs, switchgear borrowed from other Royal Enfield models, and a large, round dash that looks modern. The motorcycle will likely come with support for turn-by-turn navigation and have a host of other rider information on offer.
It will have a slim, compact frame, clearly designed with solo riding in mind, though pillion footpegs are visible, hinting at the ability to have a pillion as well. Lightweight materials, like aluminium alloys, could be used for the chassis and other components, helping to keep the overall weight down without compromising on structural rigidity. A low weight will maximize efficiency and range. It will also have a fixed battery pack- suggest the images.
It also boasts large alloy wheels with slim tyres, seemingly designed for a balance between efficiency and grip. The Flying Flea seems to blend retro styling with modern engineering and should be worth waiting for.
The motorcycle in the spy shots is still a prototype. Possibly due to the same, a few exposed wires and control modules are visible in these pictures. It would be ok to expect some parts-sharing with the existing line-up.
No data related to the powertrain or its specifications is available yet. What we do know is that the manufacturer will pack this electric motorcycle in such a way that it stays competitive and comparable to rivals even in global markets, in terms of range and performance. Though there is no official communication around it yet, the range could be in the 95-160 km bracket and performance likely similar to those offered by 350cc ICE motorcycles. The charging times should be relatively quick as well.
