The Himalayan has been an extremely popular model in the Indian market. In a way, it helped redefine the brand image. Launched in 2016, the original Himalayan 411 managed to create a cult following with its rugged design and the 'rather old-school' powertrain. The second generation- Himalayan 450, launched in November 2023. The manufacturer discontinued the OG Himalayan around the same time. Why Do People Still Love The OG Himalayan?

Well, there are many reasons for the OG Himalayan to have a cult following in India. People loved the Himalayan 411 for what it was. It was designed as a rugged adventure tourer that could go anywhere. It excelled on terrains. People loved its ability to tackle everything from rocky paths to broken roads with ease. But the 411 had several limitations on highway runs, which a lot of users reported over the years.

The motorcycle quickly earned a name for being rugged and dependable. It could take a beating and still keep going. Even with basic maintenance, the bike held up well in rough conditions. Buying and maintaining one wouldn't burn a hole in your pocket.

For a motorcycle that offered adventure-ready performance, the price was quite reasonable. It gave many first-time adventure riders the chance to experience touring without spending a fortune.

Another major reason to love the OG Himalayan is its no-frills design. It had everything a rider needed and nothing they didn’t. It was thus easy to fix, and the same gave riders confidence on long rides, especially in remote areas where mechanics were hard to find.

The OG Himalayan had a distinct look. Its tall stance, minimal bodywork, and exposed frame gave it a purposeful style that stood out on the roads. Many including us loved it for just the way it looked. The Himalayan 450 could be handsome, sophisticated, and modern, but the OG's design was in a different league altogether.

For many, the Himalayan was a workhorse for exploration. It allowed riders to reach remote areas that were once hard to access. This 'go-anywhere' nature was backed by its capable powertrain. It was powered by a 411 cc, air-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder engine, mated to a five-speed gearbox. This engine used to churn out 24.3 hp and 32 Nm of torque.

The simple, uncomplicated structure of the air-cooled engine was loved by many, and was easy to diagnose and fix. Moreover, it used to deliver torque in a very likeable fashion. There was ample low-end grunt on offer, that ensured smooth performance on tough terrains.

Unlike the 450, the OG Himalayan kept a strict curb on features and electronics offered. It had just the essentials... the basics. However, not many complained or looked for other options citing ' being under-equipped' as the reason. Lesser equipment also meant less chances of failures and easy repairs.
