The United Kingdom-based superbike motorcycle manufacturer Triumph is planning to discontinue its popular model, the Street Triple 765R, globally. This motorcycle could soon be replaced by the Trident 800, which was teased back in 2024. Most likely, the company will continue offering the Street Triple RS. Most likely, the upcoming Trident 800 will share its powertrain with the Tiger Sport 800.

Street Triple R to be discontinued

Recently, a number of automotive journalists from the United Kingdom have highlighted that Triumph is offering heavy discounts on the Street Triple R. The dealerships have also added that these prices will only be offered till the stock lasts. So, most likely, the company will be discontinuing this model in the UK, following which it could be pulling the plug on this motorcycle in India as well.

Why is Triumph Street Triple R getting discontinued?

Currently, the Street Triple R from Triumph is not pulling in strong sales for the brand. The main reason is that buyers prefer to buy the Street Triple RS, as it offers a number of significant upgrades over the Street Triple R. These include upgraded suspension, brakes, and electronics. To most buyers, paying a little premium for these added upgrades is worth it.

The price gap between the Street Triple R and RS in the UK, as well as in India, is not a lot. In India, the Street Triple R is priced at Rs 10.17 lakh, and the RS is priced at Rs 11.81 lakh. So, the gap of Rs 1.64 lakh is not much considering the plethora of upgrades that the Street Triple RS offers.

As per reports, the Street Triple R in the Triumph lineup will be replaced by the Trident 800. Back in 2024, the company teased the Trident 800. It is being speculated that the new 800cc motorcycle from the brand could be showcased at the EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori) 2025.

Most likely, the company could be launching the Trident 800 in 2026, before or after the launch of the updated Street Triple. The Trident 800 will sit between the Street Triple and Trident 660 in the lineup to bridge the gap.

It is believed that the upcoming Trident 800 will be sharing its powerplant with the Tiger Sport 800. The new bike will be getting the 798cc inline three-cylinder motor, capable of producing 113 bhp and 84 Nm of torque (in the Tiger Sport). The company could slightly tweak the engine tuning so that it can make more power.

Currently, the Street Triple R comes powered by a 765cc inline three-cylinder engine, which makes 118 bhp and 80 Nm of torque. As can be noted, the gap in power is not a lot, so it does not make much sense for the company to keep offering the Street Triple R in the lineup.

For those who may be wondering why the Street Triple RS is not getting discontinued, the answer is that this motorcycle is regarded as an amazing track bike that has a loyal customer base. Due to this reason, it will have a different set of buyers, making it stand out despite the launch of the Trident 800.
