Ultraviolette X47 Crossover Electric 'Adventure' Motorcycle Launched

Ultraviolette Automotive has added an interesting new product to its India portfolio- the X47 electric dual-purpose motorcycle. It has been launched at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 2.49 lakh (for the first 1000 bookings only). Beyond this number, the price will be increased to Rs 2.79 lakh. The pre-bookings are open and the deliveries will begin on October 25. It slots in as the fifth product in Ultraviolette’s India portfolio. The other four are the F77 Superstreet, F77 Mach 2, Tesseract electric scooter, and the Shockwave Enduro electric motorcycle.
Interestingly, Ultraviolette has stuck to its tradition of rolling out aviation-related names, with this product as well. The X47 is an unmanned combat air system carrier (UCAS) offered by Northrop Grumman to the US Navy.
The X47 is a good-looking motorcycle. The larger design is vocal about it being an adventure motorcycle. Look closely, and you will realize that the headlight has been borrowed from the F77 lineup. The body panels feature an angular design, and the seat is a single-piece unit. The bike even comes with a stylish windscreen. The handlebar is high-set and gets knuckle guards.
Ultraviolette is also offering a host of accessories on the X47- ranging from panniers to auxiliary lights and more. There is also a special Desert Wing edition on offer.
This dual-sport motorcycle also comes packed with features. It gets the company’s own ADAS tech (called UV Hypersense) as a standard fitment. This suite offers a 150-degree front view, a 68-degree rear vertical, and 200 meters of tracking distance, along with features such as rear collision warning, lane change assist and overtake alerts. Dual channel ABS, four-level traction control, dynamic stability control and tow alter are also part of the package.
In addition to these, the X47 offers multiple regen and ride modes, connectivity features and two screens- one functioning as the main dashboard and the second displaying key ADAS information and warnings. The main screen has been placed at an ‘easy to read’ angle for the rider. The X47 will be available in three variants- Laser, Airstrike, and Shadow.
On the mechanical front, it gets USD front forks and a rear monoshock. Both wheels get single disc brakes. This adventure bike borrows its powertrains from the F77 lineup. It gets the same two battery options- 7.1kWh and 10.3kWh.
The larger of these claims a range of 323 km per charge (expect real range of around 220 km!), while the smaller claims 211km IDC. The electric bike is claimed to do the 0-60 kph sprint in just 2.7 seconds and has a top speed of 145 kph. It also comes with a 1.6 kW onboard charger.
With its present pricing, the X47 has become the most affordable motorcycle in the UV portfolio. The F77 range has a slightly higher starting price of Rs 2.99 lakh, ex-showroom. This means that even with the revised price of Rs 2.79 lakh, the X47 will sit below the F77 range. The company now has a presence in 10 European markets as well. The new product will help it appeal to larger crowds there.
Even in India, the X47 will bring more buyers to the brand. The demand for adventure tourers and dual-sport motorcycles has lately been on a climb here. Ultraviolette now has a presence in 30 cities across the country. This network will help in getting the 47 to the right audience. As for expansion plans, UV is looking at having footprints in 100 cities in the near future.
Not limiting its focus to the performance niche alone will give the brand more exposure and the ability to scale its market penetration. What needs to be seen now is whether UV has managed to get the weight distribution and dynamics right with the X47. We will be able to assess this only when we get the motorcycle for a detailed review.
