Generally, when essential safety gear like a helmet gets worn out, it is recommended that it should be thrown away and replaced with a new and better product. However, there are many frugal people living in India who do not think twice before compromising their safety. Recently, a video has gone viral on the internet, showing a man sitting on a roadside fixing up an old helmet using tape and superglue.

Man Fixed Helmet with Tape and Superglue

This video, showing a man repairing a helmet after completely dismantling it, has been shared on Instagram by Virtual Banjara on their page. It starts off with a person sitting on a footpath with his complete helmet repair setup. This man first rips off all the internal components of the helmet, including the padding.

Following this, he then cuts off the straps from the inside and also removes the old visor from the outside. During this, the man who was recording was asking him why he was tearing apart this helmet. To this, he mentions that to repair it completely, he will have to remove all the old parts of this helmet.

Next up, he then takes out the foam padding, which absorbs the shock during an accident. He then shows the new padding to the customer and starts fitting the foam pad with the new padding. What's shocking is that the man was using clear tape to keep this padding on. He was also using superglue to make sure that the padding sticks properly.

Soon after this, he fits the newly padded foam inside the helmet. He then cleans up the front portion of the helmet and adds a rubber sheet with the help of the same superglue. Following this, he adds back the side padding after passing it through the straps and again uses superglue to keep it in place. Finally, he adds a brand-new visor to this helmet.

Why Is This the Stupidest Thing to Do?

For those who may be wondering if this is a cheap and efficient way to repair the helmet, the answer is yes. But if you ask whether this is a safe way to repair a helmet, then the answer is a big no. Such makeshift repairs are extremely low quality, and they render the helmet useless in case of an accident when it really matters.

If you have a helmet that cannot be repaired by the authorized dealer, then you should opt for a new helmet. Trying to repair safety gear, which is designed specifically to keep your head safe during an accident, is not a good idea. Make sure that the repair done on your helmet is from a reputed place.

Never Compromise with Safety

There have been numerous incidents in which a good helmet has managed to save a rider's head in case of an accident. However, despite this, there are many reckless people who not only do not wear helmets but also encourage others to avoid wearing them. Recently, it was reported that people in Pune started staging protests against the police authorities of their city.

They demanded that they should not be required to wear helmets because they are “uncomfortable.” These people even went a step further by creating a fake funeral for helmets to highlight this issue. This came after a rule was passed in Pune, which mandated that every pillion rider should wear a helmet. This notification was passed on to commissioners and superintendents of police in various districts, including Pune.

However, despite the notification and enforcement, many citizen groups, forums, and organizations started opposing this helmet rule. It was reported that these groups have sent letters to various authorities, including the Pune Police Commissionerate, traffic authorities, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner, and Regional Transport Offices.
