Yamaha has rolled out the updated R15 lineup for 2025 in India, with prices starting at Rs 1.67 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The refreshed range includes the R15S, R15 Version 4, and the flagship R15M. The focus this year is on new colour schemes and graphics, with no changes to the proven 155cc engine and mechanicals.

Fresh Colours Across the Lineup

For 2025, Yamaha has leaned on cosmetic updates to keep the R15 range appealing. The R15M gets a Metallic Grey finish that gives the flagship model a more premium and understated look.

The R15 Version 4 gets the widest choice, with a new Metallic Black option added in response to customer demand. The Racing Blue shade has updated graphics, and Yamaha has also introduced Matte Pearl White to India for the first time, a colour already popular in the global R-Series lineup.

The R15S, the entry-level variant, comes in Matte Black with bright vermillion-coloured wheels. This styling cue gives it a sporty identity while keeping it distinct from higher-priced versions. Overall, Yamaha’s colour strategy reflects a move toward subtler, more mature finishes rather than flashy designs.

Priced To Fight

The R15S continues as the entry point at Rs 1.67 lakh. The R15 Version 4 is priced at Rs 1.84 lakh, while the R15M tops the range at Rs 2.01 lakh. This spread allows Yamaha to cover a wide customer base, from budget-conscious enthusiasts to buyers looking for the most feature-packed variant.

These prices place the R15 above mainstream sporty commuters like the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 or Honda Hornet 2.0, but still below higher-capacity options like the KTM RC 200. The positioning keeps the R15 in its familiar niche: a track-focused sports bike that is still usable for daily riding.

Same Engine, Same Features

Underneath the new paintwork, the R15 remains unchanged. All variants use the same 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Actuation, producing 18.4 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. A six-speed gearbox with assist and slipper clutch is standard.

Features such as traction control, dual-channel ABS, upside-down front forks, a quick shifter on select trims, and a linked rear monoshock continue. Higher variants also get a full-digital TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and Yamaha’s Y-Connect app integration for call and message alerts, navigation, and vehicle data.

The decision to keep the mechanicals unchanged reflects Yamaha’s confidence in the platform. The 155cc motor is already seen as one of the best in its class, offering a strong balance between performance, efficiency, and rider-friendly usability.

How It Stacks Vs. Competition

The R15 competes with models like the KTM RC 125, Bajaj Pulsar RS200, and Hero Karizma XMR. Yamaha’s advantage lies in its authentic sportbike DNA, borrowed directly from the larger R-Series family. Features like traction control and quick shifter availability give it an edge over rivals, while its styling closely mirrors bigger superbikes.

The bike attracts a wide range of riders. For college students and young enthusiasts, it represents an aspirational step up from smaller commuters. Young professionals appreciate its mix of weekday practicality and weekend performance. Track-day riders value its handling and advanced features at an accessible price point. Even experienced riders choose it as a fun, manageable second bike for city use.

Sales and Market Outlook

The R15 remains Yamaha’s strong seller in India. In July 2025, Yamaha sold 6,623 units of the R15 range, up sharply from 4,380 units in June. With the festive season ahead and new colours now available, Yamaha expects sales momentum to continue.

Over one million R15s have been manufactured to date, underlining the model’s long-standing success in India. The company’s decision to focus on design updates rather than mechanical changes shows confidence in the bike’s strong market fit.

Yamaha is expected to continue with minor updates like new colours and graphics until regulations or customer demand call for major changes. For now, the 2025 R15 lineup demonstrates that small, targeted updates are enough to keep one of India’s favourite performance bikes relevant and appealing.
