Yamaha R15-Based WR155 Dual Sport Motorcycle Spied Testing Undisguised: Launch Soon

The Japanese motorcycle giant Yamaha is gearing up for the launch of its fifth product based on its superhit R15 platform. Recently, the Yamaha WR155 R, which is a dual-sport motorcycle, was spotted testing undisguised. The spy images show this trail motorcycle with a temporary registration number. Most likely, it will be launched in India alongside the Yamaha XSR155 on November 11.

As mentioned, the Yamaha WR155 R will be based on the same platform as the R15, MT-15, and the Aerox 155. The upcoming XSR155 will also be based on this platform. The main highlight of this platform is the 155cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, single-cylinder motor, which comes with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation).

Internationally, the WR155 R makes 16.7 PS of power and 14.3 Nm of torque. However, reports have mentioned that the WR155 R in India could make slightly less power. This engine will come mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Its kerb weight will be around 134 kg. Braking will be handled by hydraulic brakes at the front as well as the rear.

In terms of dimensions, the Yamaha WR155 R will be 2,145 mm in length, 840 mm wide, and its height will be around 1,200 mm. As for the wheelbase, it will be 1,430 mm. Feature-wise, this dual-sport trail motorcycle will be offered with a fully digital instrument cluster, electric start, and an 8.1-litre fuel capacity.

The WR155 R will boast a semi double-cradle frame, telescopic fork suspension at the front, and a monoshock at the rear. The front wheel will be 21 inches, and the rear will be an 18-inch wheel. As for ground clearance, the bike will offer 245 mm and have an 880 mm seat height.

Launch and Pricing

As mentioned, Yamaha is expected to launch the WR155 R dual-sport motorcycle on November 11 alongside the XSR155. This motorcycle will take on the Hero Xpulse and Kawasaki KLX 230 in India. Pricing for this niche motorcycle is expected to be in the range of Rs 1.5 lakh.

Another motorcycle based on the Yamaha R15 platform is the XSR155. This neo-retro motorcycle has already been spotted testing on multiple occasions in India. This motorcycle will share the same engine as the WR155 R and other siblings from the brand. It is believed that it will be tuned differently and make around 18.1 PS of power and 14 Nm of torque.

In terms of design, it will feature round LED headlights, a teardrop fuel tank, a flat bench seat, and an upright seating posture. The test mules of the XSR155 spotted so far have indicated that it will be offered with 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels. Braking duties will be handled by single discs on both ends, and it is expected to get dual-channel ABS. Pricing is expected to be in the range of Rs 1.75 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh.

Recently, Yamaha also updated its maxi-scooter, the Aerox 155, in India. The updated version was launched back in May of this year. The scooter received a new color option, Ice Fluo Vermillion. A Smart Key system for keyless ignition and remote locking was also added to the feature list of the Aerox 155.
