Engine and performance: The Mahindra XUV700 comes with two engine options – a petrol engine and a diesel engine. The petrol engine is a 2.0-liter mStallion turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 197.13 BHP and 380 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The automatic variant of the petrol engine is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. The diesel engine is a 2.2-liter mHawk turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 182.38 BHP and 420 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is also mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The automatic variant of the diesel engine is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.
Both the petrol and diesel engines allow the driver to choose between four driving modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom, and Custom. The Zip mode is designed for city driving, while the Zap mode is for relaxed highway driving. The Zoom mode is for a more spirited driving experience, while the Custom mode lets the driver customise the throttle response, steering, and suspension settings.
The Mahindra XUV700 also comes with an all-wheel-drive system for better traction and stability on rough terrain. The SUV allows the driver to choose between four different terrain modes – Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rough Road.
Ride and handling: The Mahindra XUV700 features a monocoque construction, which is stiffer and lighter than a body-on-frame construction. This allows the XUV700 to have a more rigid chassis. The XUV700’s suspension setup consists of an independent front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. Together with the chassis, this setup provides the SUV with a smooth and comfortable ride, even on bumpy roads.
The steering of the XUV700 is precise and responsive. It is also well-weighted and makes the SUV easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces, while providing good stability and confidence at high speeds. The Mahindra XUV700 comes with disc brakes on all four wheels.
The brakes are progressive and easy to modulate. The SUV feels composed and planted around corners, with minimal body roll. The all-wheel-drive system and terrain mode selector provide the SUV with good traction and stability on rough terrain.

Concluding remarks: The Mahindra XUV700 is a powerful vehicle, loaded with features. It does well in a variety of driving conditions as well as on different terrains.
We have identified four variants as the most VFM: 2 petrol, 1 diesel, and 1 4WD. This is because the petrol variants are usually cheaper, but the demand for diesel is higher. Also, more buyers are seeking AWD or 4WD capabilities these days.
Most VFM Variant (petrol) vs Base Variant
The base variant of the Mahindra XUV700 is also the XUV700 MX. The XUV700 MX E has very minor differences (such as electronic stability control, which the base variant doesn’t have) over the XUV700 MX. If you require features like the ESC, go for the XUV700 MX E.
Most VFM Variant (Diesel) vs Base Variant
The most VFM (diesel) variant has similar features as the VFM (petrol). If you are looking for diesel option in XUV700, then this variant is for you.
Most VFM (4WD) Variant vs Most VFM (petrol/diesel) Variant
The most VFM (4WD) variant has additional features over the most VFM (petrol and diesel) variants, which include sunroof, reverse parking camera, LED headlights (as against halogen in the other VFM variants), navigation support, 10.25-inch touchscreen dual HD infotainment system with built-in Alexa and AdrenoX Connect with 1-year free subscription, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 18-inch alloy wheels (as against 17-inch regular ones in other VFM variants), automatic climate control, tilt and telescopic steering column (as against only tilt in other VFM variants), 360-degree camera, cruise control, fog lights, cornering headlamps, wireless charging, 12 speakers, traction control, blind spot monitor, knee/curtain airbags, and follow-me-home headlights.
In conclusion, the Mahindra XUV700 is a sturdy SUV packed with features, even in its most value for money variants, and is competitively priced.
