Design and features: The Maruti Suzki Fronx’s design bears the Nexa’s ‘Crafted Futurism’ mark, and is built on the Heartect platform. The front of the car has a large radiator grille, black cladding on the wheel arches and sides, silver skid plates, and roof rails. The Fronx sports creases all over, giving it a sculpted look. Besides, it has LED multi-reflector headlamps and LED tail lamps with a light bar connecting them, LED DRLs and 16-inch alloy wheels.
In terms of features, the Maruti Fronx offers keyless entry and go, auto LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, 360-degree camera, head-up display (HUD), cruise control, multi-function steering, auto-dimming IRVM, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, rear AC vents, and USB charging ports.
Engine and performance: The Maruti Fronx is available with two engine options: a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine, and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine, with both having mild-hybrid technology. While the turbo engine produces 98.69 BHP and 147.6 Nm of torque, the latter produces 88.5 BHP of power and 113 Nm of torque.
The turbo-petrol engine comes with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, while the petrol engine has a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
The Fronx moves off the line smoothly. The throttle response is good, and the car feels smooth at city speeds. Light controls make the Fronx easy to drive around in the city.
On the open road, too, the Fronx’s performance is brisk. The power delivery is linear, and there is decent mid-range delivery. The 5-speed manual transmission is slick. The clutch is light and the travel range is average.
Ride and handling: The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has a McPherson strut suspension at the front and a torsion beam suspension with coil springs at the rear. The Fronx easily absorbs small potholes at city speeds. The suspension performs well even on bad roads but large potholes can be felt in the cabin.
The car holds its line on long curves. But there is a little body roll, and even that is well-controlled.
The Fronx has a user-friendly electric power steering, which is light in the city and weighs up well at high speeds. The Fronx is equipped with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear, and the performance is adequate.
Comfort and space: The Maruti Fronx has good space in the cabin. They offer good support and the right amount of cushioning. The driver seat has height adjustment and can also slide back. There is a leather-wrapped centre armrest that can slide forward.
The rear seats are wide and can accommodate three adults. Besides, there are adjustable headrests and 3-point seatbelts for all 3 passengers. The knee room and headroom at the rear are good.
There are a fair number of storage spaces in the cabin, such as an illuminated glovebox, doorpads that can hold a bottle along with other items, two cupholders in the centre console and a wireless smartphone charging pad at the base of the centre fascia.
The Fronx has a boot space of 308 litres, and the rear seat is split in a 60:40 ratio.
Safety: The Maruti Suzuki Fronx’s safety features include front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats, among others.
