Old Is Gold: Bengaluru Man Restomods 11 Year-Old Tata safari Storme Instead Of Selling It [Video]

Generally, what most old car owners do is either sell their car or exchange it for a brand-new one to get some benefits on their purchase. However, there are some enthusiasts for whom parting ways with their old car is an emotional issue and also not a financially good decision. So, what they do is completely restore their old car. Recently, a video of one such Tata Safari Storme was shared online. The owner of this Safari Storme restomodded his SUV rather than selling it off.
The video showing this unique Tata Safari Storme after being restomodded was shared on Instagram by Sharath V on his page. In this short clip, we can see that this particular old Tata Safari Storme has been given a brand-new aftermarket body kit from Motormind Designs. For those who may not be aware, Motormind Designs is a popular company that makes aftermarket body kits and other parts for popular Indian cars.
We can see that, as part of the new Motormind Designs body kit, this Tata Safari Storme gets a brand-new front fascia. It has a completely new front grille, which looks very futuristic and premium. The central Tata emblem has been removed, and it now gets an offset-positioned Motormind Designs logo. It also comes with a brand-new front bumper that gives it a unique appearance.
This front bumper is finished in white and gets additional LED DRLs. Apart from the DRLs, it also features a gunmetal grey-colored bezel in the middle, which looks very different. Additionally, the company has also changed the design of the bonnet, and it now gets fake vents and a raised middle portion to give the SUV a bulky style.
Other notable highlights of this particular Tata Safari Storme include a set of aftermarket alloy wheels and a grey element on the roof with four amber lights at the front. As for the rear, this SUV retains the company-fitted rear bumper, but the central diffuser has been changed and now looks more aggressive.
Today, if you want to buy a new car, the first major drawback is that all new cars have become very expensive. Secondly, you have to take on a new financial burden as you’ll have to pay a big down payment, EMI, higher insurance costs, and more maintenance costs for new tech-based cars.
Now, if you go the route of restomodding, you’ll have a brand-new-looking car with refreshed aesthetics. It will also help you stand out in public rather than having the same brand-new car as many others. For this, the only cost you’ll have to bear is the modifications you add. This method saves you from paying the above-mentioned new car costs.
New cars today are technologically very advanced, so building them consumes a lot of resources. A large quantity of steel, aluminium, plastic, and rubber has to be produced to create a new car. All of this increases production costs and pollution. So, by restoring your older cars, you are helping the environment.
Another reason not to buy a new car and instead restore your old one is to avoid scrapping a good car that can still be used for more years. Today, after a vehicle is scrapped, it is taken to a landfill. And as there are a lot of plastics, foams, upholstery, and other electronic waste, it takes decades to decompose. In the meantime, it also increases soil and water pollution.
So, instead of switching cars every couple of years, try to own them for 10–15 years. We say this because if you own a car for a longer period, you can extract the most value out of it. Cars usually lose the bulk of their value within the first 5–7 years. So, holding onto them over a longer period spreads the cost and makes it financially viable.
