2025 Will Be The Year Of Electric SUVs: 10 Reasons

The year 2025 is going to be exciting for car manufacturers in India, especially those working on EVs. Several Indian and foreign brands are focusing on electric vehicles. Some of these will be expensive, while others will cater to the mass segment. Most of the EVs launching this year are SUVs. The craze for SUVs is well-known, and this trend is reflected in the EV segment too. Here is a list of upcoming electric SUVs that are likely to be priced under ₹25 lakh.
This will be the biggest launch from India’s largest car manufacturer this year. Suzuki unveiled the eVitara last year at an international event, and it is expected to be showcased this year. The Maruti eVitara features different styling compared to the ICE Grand Vitara. It is likely to come with two battery pack options. The first will be a 49 kWh unit generating 144 BHP and 189 Nm of peak torque in a single-motor setup. The second variant will feature a 61 kWh battery pack with a dual-motor setup, generating 174 BHP in the single-motor configuration and 184 BHP with 300 Nm of peak torque in the dual-motor configuration. The SUV is likely to be launched in the market this year.
As we already know, Suzuki and Toyota have a partnership deal, sharing several products in their lineup. A month after the launch of the Maruti Suzuki eVitara, Toyota will launch its version of the electric SUV. Mechanically, both SUVs will remain the same, but Toyota may make cosmetic changes to the exterior to differentiate it from the eVitara. Toyota’s EV is expected to be launched later this year.
Hyundai recently unveiled its upcoming electric SUV, the Creta Electric. The SUV looks similar to the ICE variant but has several unique elements to differentiate the two. The SUV is loaded with a ton of features, including active air flaps, a stalk-type gear selector, ADAS, driving modes, and more. It will be powered by a 51.4 kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of 473 km. The Creta Electric has been launched at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo. Prices start from Rs. 17.99 lakh.
Although this list focuses on SUVs, the MG Windsor EV is too significant to ignore. It is currently the best-selling electric vehicle in the country. The spacious CUV, as MG likes to call it, offers a decent number of features and a good driving range. Rumors suggest MG might introduce a bigger battery pack version of the Windsor EV, available internationally. The 50 kWh variant might be launched later this year.
Spy pictures and videos of the Harrier EV have been circulating recently. The Hyundai Creta Electric rival is likely to be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo later this month. The SUV will feature a bigger battery pack and an AWD setup, making it the first Tata EV to include AWD.
Tata will launch the Sierra EV in India in the second half of 2025. Like the Harrier, the Sierra EV will also come with a large battery pack. It will feature a dual-motor setup, which means it will include an AWD system.
Mahindra launched the updated XUV300 as the XUV 3XO last year. An electric version of the SUV, known as the XUV400, is already on sale. The SUV is due for an update, with spy pictures of the facelifted version spotted on several occasions. The updated SUV will feature an XUV 3XO-inspired design.
The Mahindra XEV 7E, also known as the XUV700 Electric, has recently been spotted testing. The SUV will feature an XEV 9E-inspired front fascia and a rear design resembling the ICE version. It will use the same battery pack as the XEV 9E and BE 6 and will offer premium features. The SUV is expected to launch by late 2025 or early 2026.
Kia recently unveiled the compact SUV Syros for India. This SUV sits between the Sonet and Seltos. An electric version of the Syros will also be launched, expected about six months after the ICE version. The Syros EV will be offered as a front-wheel-drive vehicle.
Kia has been testing the electric version of its popular MPV, the Carens. The Carens will soon receive a facelift, with the EV version based on the updated model. It will feature EV-specific changes like a closed grille and other cosmetic updates. The Carens EV is expected to launch by the end of 2025.
