We all have heard the saying that “Age is just a number,” and over the years, a number of people have proved this right. Recently, we came across an elderly couple from Gujarat who have become an inspiration for many riders across the country. This 77-year-old couple has been riding across India on their 1974 Royal Enfield Bullet and have managed to inspire so many people.

Mohanlal Chauhan and Leelaben: 77-year-old riding couple

The video showing the welcoming and stay of this riding couple in Uttar Pradesh has been shared on YouTube by Sharks Studio Art Gallery on their page. In this short video, the 77-year-old riding couple can be seen arriving with their vintage Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle. This particular bike also has a sidecar, on which the wife sits along with the luggage.

In this video, the couple was welcomed by a riding group and its members, and they checked in at a hotel. The couple then had a chat with the riding community members, following which they were then waved goodbye at a toll gate. The couple was seen being thankful for this warm welcome and stayed in the video.

Who is this riding couple from Gujarat?

As mentioned above, this particular couple hails from Vadodara, Gujarat. Their journey of travelling across India started in 2016. The rider, Mohanlal Chauhan, was an ONGC employee who, in 2011, suffered from a heart attack. At the time, he was told by the officials that he could not ride his beloved 1974 Royal Enfield Bullet.

However, Chauhan did not lose hope, and after recovering from the heart attack, he started riding his motorcycle. Following this, in 2015, he retired from his job at ONGC, and in 2016, he started riding solo across Gujarat. In the first year, he managed to solo ride over 3,000–4,000 km. But he then found out that he needed a riding companion.

As a result of this, he asked his wife to accompany him on his riding journey. Unfortunately, back in 2010, his wife Leelaben suffered from a fracture, which made it difficult for her to sit on long rides behind him. So they devised a plan and added a sidecar to their vintage Royal Enfield Bullet, and then started riding across the country.

What’s even more astonishing is that their daily budget is Rs 3,000–4,000. In a few interviews, Mohanlal Chauhan has mentioned that his son and his daughter-in-law support their riding and have installed a GPS tracker on their bike. He added that his son keeps track of his journey and also supports him financially.

Inspiring journey

The journey of this couple is extremely inspiring for the young riders who want to start riding but do not because of small issues. Chauhan, in an interview, mentioned that initially they were not recognised by anyone and they had no support. However, over the last few years, they have managed to get support from many riding groups and communities. They have shared the message that it is never too late to start living your dream life.
