90s Dream Garage With Popular Cars From Your Childhood [Video]

We often say that the ’90s was a golden era for automotive enthusiasts around the world. Growing up, we would have seen several new and interesting cars in the ’90s, and some of these might even have been your dream car. There are several car collectors in India and around the world who have a passion for these machines, and here we have one such video that showcases just that. In this video, we see almost every car from the ’90s that you dreamed of as a kid.
The video has been shared by The Car Whisperer on their Instagram page. The footage is from a private garage in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. Most of the cars in this garage once ruled the Indian roads.
The first car on the list is the Opel Astra, which was launched in 1996. The car seen here is from that year, and it was GM’s first-ever C2-segment car for India. It offered a spacious cabin, a comfortable ride, and premium features for that time. It was available with both petrol and diesel engine options. It competed with the likes of the Honda City and the Mitsubishi Lancer in the market.
The Tempo Trax was a rugged, utilitarian vehicle that was popular in rural areas of India. It was initially called Bajaj Tempo. The SWB version of the MUV is seen in the video here. It was then called the Tempo Trax and can be considered a predecessor of the modern-day Gurkha SUV. We are not sure if the SUV seen here is the 4×4 variant or not. It used a 2.4-litre OM616 turbo diesel engine.
This was a 5-seater family car that was once available in the Indian market. The Indian version of the sedan used a 1.5-litre diesel engine that came with a manual transmission. The design of the Peugeot 309 resembles a sedan, but it is actually a hatchback.
Tata Sierra
This iconic name is all set to make a comeback in the Indian market. The Sierra was India’s first compact SUV, and it was, in fact, a three-door SUV. While the SUV was not a big hit among buyers at the time, it now has a huge fan following. It was available with a diesel engine option in both turbo and non-turbo versions.
Tata 207 Crew Cab
The 207 Crew Cab was actually a version of the Tata Telcoline. It was a dual-cab pickup truck that was available with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel and a 3.0-litre naturally aspirated diesel engine.
HM Contessa
Another iconic car in this garage is the Contessa. The sedan became a status symbol among wealthy Indians. Some even call this sedan the muscle car of India. It was based on the Vauxhall VX Series and was offered with both petrol and diesel engine options.
Tata Estate
The Tata Estate was a station wagon launched by Tata Motors in 1992. It was Tata’s first attempt at entering the passenger vehicle segment. For a car that was launched in the ’90s, it was fairly loaded with premium features such as power windows, power steering, air conditioning, a rear windscreen wiper, and many more. It was available with a diesel engine.
Daewoo Cielo
The next car in this garage is a Daewoo Cielo in black or green. The sedan looks well-maintained, with the original wheel caps in place. It is powered by a 1.5-litre inline 4-cylinder engine that generated 79 PS and 127 Nm of peak torque.
Maruti Gypsy
The garage also has a 2006 model Gypsy soft top. It is an iconic SUV known for its lightweight build and off-road capabilities. The SUV was discontinued due to low demand and rising competition. However, it still holds a special place in the hearts of off-road enthusiasts.
Premier 118 NE
Premier Automobiles Limited (PAL) was once a popular brand in the Indian market. The Premier 118 NE was based on the Fiat 124 and was available with a 1171 cc engine. It generated 52 BHP and 79 Nm of torque.
