One of the most heartbreaking moments for any automotive enthusiast is to witness a car being abandoned and collecting dirt. This pain increases exponentially when a rare luxury car like a Mercedes Maybach is seen rotting on the side of a road. Recently, a video has gone viral on the internet in which India’s one and only Mercedes Maybach GLS600 is shown in a dilapidated condition on the side of a busy road.

India's First Abandoned Mercedes Maybach

This video showing the condition of the Mercedes Maybach luxury SUV has been shared on Instagram by Krish Hambire on their page. In this short video, we can note that a black-colored Mercedes Maybach is parked on the side of a busy road in Bandra, Mumbai. The entire vehicle is covered with twigs, leaves, and a thick layer of dust.

It can be seen that this vehicle has a registration number from Delhi. Also, the rear “600” badge of the vehicle is missing. Overall, the vehicle has not been damaged like some of the other abandoned luxury cars that we have seen recently. Presently, it is the only Mercedes Maybach GLS600 that is abandoned in India.

From the outside, it seems like this particular Mercedes SUV is the ultra-luxury Maybach GLS600, which costs above Rs 3.2 crore. However, it is actually a standard Mercedes-Benz GLS 400d that has been converted into a Maybach using an aftermarket kit. It has been given a Maybach grille, alloy wheels, front and rear bumpers, window chrome surrounds, and Maybach logos.

What's the Story Behind This Maybach's Abandonment?

For those who may be wondering what led to the abandonment of this particular Mercedes Maybach — back in August of this year, this particular vehicle was involved in an accident that unfortunately claimed the life of a woman. What happened was that early in the morning on August 14, this SUV hit a 60-year-old woman sitting by the roadside drinking tea.

This accident took place in Chimbai, Bandra West, Mumbai, near Jaldarshan Society and Joggers Park at Carter Road. As per reports, the driver of this vehicle, Jeeva Ramchandra Munecha, a 41-year-old chauffeur, crashed into the woman named Kasturabai Chavan, who lived on Carter Road, Mumbai.

Soon after the crash, the driver of the SUV came out and immediately called an autorickshaw to take the woman to Bhabha Hospital, leaving the Mercedes Maybach at the spot. Following this, he was arrested, and his blood samples were taken for testing to check if he was under the influence of alcohol or not.

After reaching the hospital, the woman was initially treated by doctors. However, the injuries on her head were very serious, and she could not be saved. The tea stall owner in front of which the accident took place confirmed her death to her son, Bharat Chavan.

The police have registered a case of accidental death and rash driving against the driver. At the moment, the vehicle is under police custody. Whether the driver has been imprisoned or not has not been revealed, as the investigation in this case is still ongoing.
