Simran Becomes 1st Famous Indian Actress To Buy Mahindra Thar Roxx: Takes Delivery With Traditional Pooja [Video]

The Thar ROXX has been a hugely successful model for Mahindra. It isn't just the common man who has fallen in love with the butch stance of this Indian SUV. Since its market debut in 2024, we have seen the five-door Thar reaching the garages of many celebrities and public figures as well. The latest celeb to join the ROXX club is actress Simran, known for her roles in South Indian movies - specifically the Tamil film industry. With this purchase, she has become the first famous Indian actress to bring home the Thar ROXX.
Unlike many who take delivery of their new cars and SUVs from events organized at dealerships, wearing expensive outfits and branded accessories, Simran preferred to have her ROXX home-delivered. In a video that is now doing rounds on the internet, we see the actress receiving the SUV with her family. She is seen in casual clothes, alongside her husband and two sons.
The video shows her taking delivery of the ROXX in pure 'desi' style. She lights a lamp and takes part in religious rituals that are being performed on the car. Finally, the family receives the key and poses with their new ROXX. They seem to have opted for the 'Battleship Grey' colourway. We don't know if they've bought the petrol or diesel variant though.
At the time of writing this article, the ROXX has its price in the Rs 12.99 lakh-23.39 lakh bracket. If it is the top-spec 4x4 variant that the actress has added to her garage, the on-road price should have been over 28 lakh rupees.
Over the years, we have seen Simran with a lot of expensive cars and SUVs- Mercedes E-Class, Audi Q7, Mercedes C-Cabriolet and more. The new ROXX adds a 'desi' touch to her garage, and we could see the family using it for their adventure drives in the future.
Mahindra sells the five-door Thar ROXX in six broad trims and a slew of variants. On the design front, the ROXX keeps all the iconic cues safe, and comes in seven exterior colours- Stealth Black, Tango Red, Everest White, Deep Forest, Nebula Blue, Battleship Grey, and Burnt Sienna. Key exterior design highlights include a 6-pack grille, 19-inch alloy wheels on higher variants, C-shaped LED DRLs, and pillar-mounted rear door handles.
Two cabin colourways are available- Ivory and Mocha Brown. The latter comes just on the 4x4 variants. Four Wheel Drive (4WD) hardware, by the way, is offered only on the MX5, AX5L, and AX7L trims.
Circling back, the cabin comes with a lot of modern features- a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display, wireless charger, automatic AC, 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a panoramic sunroof, wireless Carplay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, and rear AC vents.
Due to its larger proportions, the ROXX is notably more spacious inside than the three-door Thar. Plus, it is more practical and usable than the regular Thar. Earlier this year, Mahindra announced an update to the ROXX which added three useful features to it- keyless entry, sliding function for the front passenger-side armrest, and more aerodynamic wipers. These have increased its appeal and improved the user experience.
The ROXX is underpinned by Mahindra's new-age M-GLYDE platform. This body-on-frame SUV platform strikes a balance between comfort, dynamics and off-road abilities. It is notably more rigid than the previous Thar's platform. Mahindra has also managed to keep it light. M-GLYDE uses advanced technologies like Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) and comes with a penta-link rear suspension with Watts linkage.
On the powertrain front, there are two options on offer: a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol. These are the same engines used in other Mahindra models including the 3-door Thar. Both manual and automatic transmissions are available on petrol and diesel powertrains.
