Akash Ambani Takes Wife, Sister On A Joyride In Rolls Royce Convertible [Video]

Akash Ambani, the elder son of Mukesh Ambani- Asia’s richest man, was recently spotted driving around with his wife and sister in a Rolls Royce Drophead coupe in Mumbai, with the roof down! Videos of this are now doing rounds on Instagram.
The Ambanis do high-security travel. Their security convoy has several vehicles and personnel. The businessman and his folks usually travel in a high-security bullet-proof Range Rover. In this case, they were on what looked like a joyride in a Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe that the family has been owning for a long time. The roof was folded down. Likely due to the same, the security convoy of 10+ cars seems to be on high alert.
One of the two ladies is seated in the co-driver’s seat while the other is seated in the back. Both of them seem to enjoy the ‘ roof-down fun ride. ‘ People are showering comments on the reel.
A user commented ‘Perfect Car to Cruise in while seeing the Open “Akash” when Akash Itself is behind the wheel…’ while another said ‘I wonder what would be the market value of that car. The demand would be on top and basically zero supply.’
The Drophead coupe seen in the video is likely owned by Anant Ambani. He was spotted driving it several times in the past. These appearances always turned heads. The car is familiar to Mumbaikars. In the past, the DHC used to be accompanied by Fortuner security cars, while today, the convoy is dominated by MG Glosters.
Finished in a classy white exterior colour, it has a red roof and large Chrome wheels. The Phantom DHC is powered by a massive 6.8-litre V12 turbocharged petrol engine that produces 460 bhp and 720 Nm of torque.
The RR Phantom Drop Head Coupe is a rare find. Only six of these exist in India, and it costs about ₹90 million (1.1 million USD). This makes it one of the most expensive convertibles in the country.
The ultra-luxury Gran Tourer had made its debut at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, on 7 January 2007. It was launched later that year. It resembled the 100EX in design and had a two-door, four-seater layout. The coach doors open rearward. Like many other Rolls Royce models, the Phantom DHC also had a dual-tone paint scheme that differentiated the upper and lower bodyworks.
The interior is a luxurious blend of craftsmanship and elegance. It features luxe wood veneering that wraps around the top portion of the cabin, covering 8/9ths of the interior from one coach door to the other. This intricate woodwork extends to a finely crafted convertible tonneau cover, which is finished with teak panelling. The teak is beautifully framed by a band of contrasting hardwood, creating a striking transition between the interior wood finishes and the bare stainless steel exterior bodywork.
The dashboard and steering wheel in the Drophead Coupe are identical to those found in the Phantom sedan, adding a familiar yet sophisticated touch to the vehicle’s interior.
The convertible body is reinforced with triangular A-pillars that include quarter glass for additional structural strength. Behind the rear seats, spring-loaded pop-up rollover hoops are concealed, designed to deploy in the event of an emergency, to provide extra protection for passengers.
The convertible is no longer in production (the final unit rolled out in 2016). It thus makes for a rare, priceless piece of luxury. It is also a symbol of the Ambanis’ affinity for rare, exclusive cars and SUVs.
