The Ambanis are known for their penchant for expensive and fast cars. The family owns one of the largest and most expensive garages in the country. They are the only ones to own two Ferrari Purosangues in India. The Purosangue is Ferrari's first SUV offering. Akash Ambani was recently spotted driving the V12-powered SUV on public roads.

The video shows Akash Ambani driving the Red Ferrari SUV through public roads. Strong security can be seen around. MG Glosters and Range Rovers can be seen with beacons turned on. These keep the Ferrari covered and secured.

Akash Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), seems to enjoy his time with the Purosangue, even while having to drive slowly. There is someone in the front passenger seat as well.

Ferrari Purosangue: What Is It?

The Purosangue is Ferrari's most practical and most comfortable offering. It is also the first four-door model from Maranello. It was launched in India in February 2024. The base price here is 10.5 Crores (ex-showroom). The India-spec comes with a basic loadout of features.

It comes with shields on the flanks, upgraded wheels, painted brake callipers, contrast stitching for the interior and suspension lift function for both axles. There are 8 standard colours available, including three shades of Red.

The design is extremely good-looking and has signature Ferrari cues intact. The Purosangue comes with a long bonnet, shapely roofline and a tight-fitting tail.

There is a strong focus on aerodynamics. You'll also see an 'aerobridge' at the edges of the bonnet. These resemble those on the F12 Berlinetta to some extent. The rear doors are rear-hinged and powered, and this adds to their visual appeal.

There is ample room inside the cabin. The interior layout at large, looks ergonomic, practical and stylish. The kit levels are impressive as well. You get things like a dedicated front passenger display and more. The best seat if the one for the driver.

The biggest highlight of the Purosangue is its engine- a naturally aspirated, direct injection, 65-degree, 6.5-litre V12 petrol engine that produces 725 hp and 716 Nm. The acceleration is brutal- 0-100 kph in just 3.3 seconds. Ferrari's first SUV has a top-speed of over 310 kph. Elevating the experience further, this engine sounds exciting.

Ferrari claims that the V12 has been tuned to deliver 80% of its torque starting from rpms as low as 2,100. It red-lines at 8,250 rpm. The vehicle also features AWD (All Wheel Drive), for optimized performance. Shift times are claimed to be better than those of the 7-speed DCT units on older Ferraris.

The Purosangue has a sportscar-like engine placement- front-mid position- and a rear-mounted gearbox. This brings about a 49:51 weight distribution. This gives it an edge in handling and dynamics- almost on par with a sportscar.

The supercar maker has evidently taken a 'sportscar first' approach with the Purosangue and there are thus no off-road driving modes on offer. There is no 'rough road package' or decicated underbody protection either. It, however, has Hill Descent Control- a first for Ferrari. The SUV has torque vectoring at the front axle, an e-diff at the back and four-wheel steering.

In the Indian market, the Purosangue competes with the Lamborghini Urus. To note here is the fact that the Lamborghini is powered by a smaller twin turbocharged V8.

The Ambani family is known to own two Purosangue SUVs. Interestingly, both are finished in the same Rosso Portofino (Red) shade. During the first pre-wedding bash of Anant Ambani, we saw them using one of these.
