Hindustan Motors, or HM as many call it, was one of India’s first car manufacturers. Their iconic product, the Ambassador, ruled the roads of India for decades. It was once used by politicians, diplomats, and other government officials as their official vehicle. It was only after the entry of foreign players into the market that things started changing. However, the Ambassador is still considered a status symbol by many. Hindustan Motors stopped their operations back in 2014, but there are still several well-maintained and modified examples of the Ambassador sedan from different parts of the country. Here we have a video where an Ambassador sedan from Punjab has been converted into a pickup truck.

Watch on YouTube

The video has been shared by Harbhej Sidhu on his YouTube channel. The vlogger in this video speaks to the owner of the car who modified the Ambassador. The car is currently located in Punjab, and the owner mentions that most of the modifications seen on the car were done by him. He explains that he has a passion and love for vintage cars and bikes and runs a garage where he usually repairs superbikes.

The video then talks about the modifications on the Ambassador pickup. The original headlamps have been replaced with aftermarket projector LED units. The stock grille on this car was also replaced with a custom-made metal grille finished in chrome. The car’s front grille also gets Ambassador branding in the center.

The stock metal bumper of the Ambassador has been retained, and the chrome-plated strip on it helps with the retro look. This is a 2010 model Ambassador, and the only reason the owner wanted to convert this 4-door sedan into a 2-door pickup was because of his bikes. He wanted to modify the sedan in this manner so that he could carry his bikes with him on the car.

The side profile of the car reveals that the car has been chopped off from the B-pillar. Only the upper half of the car has been chopped off. The lower half and the body lines have not been modified in any manner. In short, the owner tried to retain the character of the Ambassador even during the modification process.

The car retains the same design as the sedan. It should be noted that HM did launch a pickup version of the Ambassador as the Veer. However, this has nothing to do with that. The rear loading area of the pickup is finished in wood, and there is a hidden bench seat behind the driver’s seat that can be accessed using a key.

The owner uses this car to do road trips with his bikes, and as per the video, he has already driven the car to Himachal Pradesh with his tent and other necessary items at the back.

The tailgate of the car has also been customized. One of the first things that attract anyone when they spot this car on the road is the paint job. The owner specifically mentions that this is not Army Green but is a shade lighter than that.

It comes with a custom-made steering wheel, AC, and seats. The wheels on this Ambassador pickup are finished in black, and they get a chrome-finished metal wheel cap that looks like a small bowl. The car also gets thick profile tires, which change the overall look of the vehicle. The owner also mentions that this is a petrol Ambassador, and it comes with an aftermarket exhaust too.
