How Amitabh Bachchan’s Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Ended Up In A Junkyard

Veteran Indian actor and Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan is known for his stellar acting career and impeccable taste in cars. Over the years, we have seen him own many expensive luxury and sports cars- Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghinis, and more. Even in 2025, Lamborghinis are rare finds on Indian roads. A few years ago, it made headlines when a White Lamborghini Murcielago was found abandoned in a junkyard in India. The Murcielago was very expensive in its day. The abandoned car seemed familiar. It soon came to light that it was once owned by Bachchan himself.
Pictures and a video of the abandoned Murcielago LP640 were shared online by the page ‘rip_car’. These show the car rotting away at a workshop in Gurgaon. Back in its day, this Murcielago was finished in Pearl White color and had Black-painted alloy wheels. The interior was finished in a dual-tone colour scheme of Red and Black. One of the images shared online shows the cabin in detail. The seats seem to be messy, and the plastics have aged as well.
The car now misses its wheels. Many of its body panels have also withered away or have taken heavy damage. The video shared on the page even shows the engine bay. Portions of the mighty 6.5-litre V12 can also be seen.
When it was with Big B, this Murcielago LP640 was a regular sight at many supercar events, including the Parx Rally. We have seen Abhishek Bachchan using the car as well. It was one of the few Murcielagos that were brought to India. Visuals of this Lamborghini rotting away thus make our hearts heavy.
Reports say that Amitabh Bachchan sold this supercar off. The person who bought it, later ended up being involved in a serious crash in Delhi. The LP640 took severe damage in the accident. It was soon moved to a garage. The new owner reportedly abandoned it later. There could be several reasons for this. One would be the huge costs involved. Spares of the Murcielago LP640 were expensive, and so was the service.
Sourcing the spares was another big challenge. The Murcielago had an exclusivity factor to it and limited units of it were allotted to the Indian market. Sourcing spares was thus difficult, even if one could afford them. These likely made the car’s new owner give up on repairs. Today, restoring it is more difficult than ever, as the Murcielago now is a legacy model.
This LP640 had a registration plate that read ‘MH 02 BH 5’. We did a quick check and found out that the car still has Bachchan as its registered owner. Challenges posed by this ownership are likely keeping this LP640 locked in its present miserable state. The actor won’t be able to get it repaired and hand it over to anyone without transferring its ownership.
The Murcielago isn’t the only Lamborghini that the actor has owned. Over the years, he has also had models like the legendary Countach, Diablo, Gallardo, and even the ultra-rare LM002 SUV (in London) in his garage. These were later traded off. Many of you would find it hard to recognize the LM002. It was, in fact, Lamborghini’s first SUV. It made its market entry in 1986, decades before the Urus’ debut. It was powered by a 450hp Chrysler V8, and had 4x4 hardware and self-locking differentials.
Today, Bachchan is known to own vehicles like Land Rover Defender, Range Rover Autobiography, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Lexus LX 470, Mini Cooper S, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and Mercedes-Benz V-Class. In the past, he has also owned a previous generation Rolls Royce Phantom. A Bengaluru-based businessman bought this luxury sedan from him, later.
