Anand Mahindra On Viral Bolero Flood Rescue Video: Don’t Replicate This As A Stunt

Anand Mahindra is one of those businessmen who is very active on social media. Along with promoting his own brand, Mahindra, he shares other content online, including motivational and appreciation posts. Recently, Anand Mahindra shared a video where a group of SUV owners were seen rescuing people from floods in Kerala. While he appreciated the gesture of the 4×4 SUV owners’ community in Kerala, he warned people not to replicate this stunt.
The SUVs were actually rescuing people stranded in their homes during the recent heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides. Many SUV owners voluntarily used their 4×4 vehicles and off-road machines for rescue and recovery operations. The video shows people driving their modified SUVs to houses and rescuing people by having them sit on the bonnet of the vehicle.
In most of these videos, we see that the cabins of the SUVs are completely underwater, and it is only because of the modifications that they are able to make it to the other side. The video went viral on the internet, and many even criticized government authorities and the Kerala MVD, who are usually strict about modified vehicles.
Anand Mahindra probably came across a video where the SUV owners or another group shared an edited version thanking Mahindra for making such capable machines. Upon seeing this, Anand Mahindra decided to share it with a message. He wrote, “First, I must say that although the vehicle had a snorkel, I would not recommend anyone put their lives at risk in this way. And I appeal to all not to attempt to replicate this as a stunt. But since these people put their lives at risk to save the lives of others, it is I who must thank THEM.”
Most of the older Mahindra Jeeps and Boleros seen in the video had snorkels. Unlike modern cars, they have minimal electronics, which reduces the chances of anything going wrong. Watching the video, we can see how confident the drivers were with their beloved machines.
This is not the first time we have come across a video like this from Kerala. Back in 2018, when Kerala experienced one of the worst floods in its history, many 4×4 owners used their vehicles to access hilly regions with mud tracks. They used their SUVs to rescue people and even bring essential items to places where people were trapped for days.
Modifications of any type are illegal in India. However, in situations like these, a regular car or SUV wouldn’t be of much use. It was because of these modifications that the owners could actually rescue people in a timely manner. If you ever come across a flooded or waterlogged road, never drive directly into it.
The chances of your vehicle stalling are high, and the likelihood of water getting into the cabin and air intake is also high. If that happens, the engine could become hydro-locked, requiring expensive repairs. In such situations, it’s always wise to look for alternate routes if possible. By driving directly into flooded roads, you are putting your life at risk.
