AR Rahman Reveals Favourite Car, And It's NOT His Audi Or Porsche Taycan

The super popular music maestro AR Rahman, who is known for creating some of the best songs, recently appeared as a guest on billionaire Nikhil Kamath’s podcast. During the podcast, AR Rahman revealed that he has recently started driving again, and he currently loves driving his newly bought Mahindra XEV 9E electric SUV. He then explained the reasons why he loves the XEV 9E so much.

AR Rahman loves his Mahindra XEV 9E

The video in which AR Rahman talks about his Mahindra XEV 9E has been shared on YouTube by Nikhil Kamath on his official channel. It starts off with the Zerodha founder billionaire asking AR Rahman if he still drives cars. To this, the music legend answers that he recently started driving again after getting his new Mahindra electric car (the XEV 9E coupe EV SUV).

Following this, Kamath then asks him why he opted for the Mahindra XEV 9E, to which he replies that he just loves it. He added that this is the first time that he felt that this car is a world-class quality car, and he had been suggesting the brand a lot of things which were implemented. AR Rahman, being the music producer, helped the company in tweaking the music system.

During the conversation, AR Rahman also highlighted that his music sounds the best in the Mahindra XEV 9E. He then joked that he is not getting paid for saying all of this. After which, Kamath asked him if it was a hobby project, to which Rahman replies that Hans Zimmer, the German film composer and music producer, did some work related to music with BMW.

So, in the same manner, Velusamy R, President of Automotive Technology & Product Development at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., contacted him. They then started working on the Mahindra electric SUVs in improving the music system and creating custom sounds. In total, AR Rahman has designed over 75 unique sounds for the Mahindra electric SUVs.

Mahindra XEV 9E music system

For those who may not be aware, the Mahindra XEV music system is a collaboration between Harman Kardon, Dolby, and A.R. Rahman. It gets a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with a 1400-watts output. This system includes a center speaker, surround speakers, a subwoofer, tweeters, mid-range drivers, and woofers. It also features Dolby Atmos for multidimensional sound.

Additionally, it gets QuantumLogic Immersion for a three-dimensional audio experience, Clari-Fi to improve the quality of compressed audio files, and VenueScapes LIVE to recreate concert hall acoustics. Lastly, the XEV 9E also gets Vehicle Noise Compensation+ (VNC+) to adjust audio based on cabin noise.

AR Rahman’s Audi Q5

When it comes to cars, AR Rahman is a very private man and does not boast about them online. He previously used to get driven around in an older-generation Audi Q5. In addition to it, there have been reports that he also owns a Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury sedan as well. However, there are no images of him with his S-Class.

AR Rahman’s daughters own a Porsche Taycan

Although AR Rahman does not show his personal cars, he once shared an image of his daughters — Khatija Rahman and Raheema Rahman — with their brand-new Rs 1.5 crore Porsche Taycan electric sedan. They have opted for the Taycan finished in a deep shade of blue.

This electric sedan comes powered by a single electric motor (base RWD variant). Meanwhile, the Taycan 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S have both a front and a rear electric motor for all-wheel drive. The maximum power it generates is 761 PS and 1050 Nm, and power is sent to all four wheels.
