Bengaluru RTO Seize 'Out-Of-State' Ferrari Parked Outside Owner's House To Recover 1.41 Crore Unpaid Road Tax

The Bengaluru RTO officials recently have become extremely strict in regards to vehicles that have come to Karnataka without paying proper taxes. As a result of this, a Rs 7.5 crore Ferrari SF90 hybrid supercar was seized from the road in front of its owner's house. It has been reported that the Bengaluru RTO officials were tipped off about this vehicle evading Karnataka road taxes amounting to Rs 1.41 crore, and as a result, it was seized.
The video showing this Ferrari SF90 being parked outside the home of the owner has been shared on YouTube by News9 Live on their channel. In this short video clip, the Rosso Corsa (Red) colored Ferrari SF90 can be seen parked on the footpath. This vehicle has a registration number of MH 02 GC 3333 but has been residing in Bengaluru for a while now.
What actually happened was that this particular Ferrari SF90 was spotted by many automotive enthusiasts as it was being driven regularly on the roads. As a result of this fame, the RTO authorities also started taking note of this vehicle with MH registration number in Karnataka, following which they were tipped off that the vehicle had evaded road tax of the state.
So the Bengaluru transport department initiated a verification of the same. It was then found out that the owner had not paid the state registration tax of Rs 1,41,59,041. Due to this, he was issued a notice, and his supercar was seized from the road in front of his house. During the seizure, the owner was asked to clear the dues by Thursday evening or he'll face legal action.
As a result, the owner immediately made the full payment of Rs 1.41 crore to the Bengaluru RTO Department for the uncleared registration fees. This amount also included all the penalties levied by the state RTO authorities. Most likely, the vehicle has now been returned to the owner. This particular recovery by the authorities is very significant as it is one of the biggest ones made in recent history.
This particular Ferrari SF90 is not the only vehicle which has been seized by Bengaluru RTO officials. Earlier this year, another Ferrari SF90 and other more expensive luxury cars, including Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, and Aston Martin, were seized. It was reported that the total tax evaded was around Rs 3 crore.
In the recent few months, the Bengaluru RTO Department has become extremely vigilant of exotic car gatherings. The department has formed special teams which are actively monitoring weekend drives and gatherings where exotic cars with non-Karnataka plates are being noted. Following which, they are verifying the registration details and are detaining the people who have not paid Karnataka road taxes.
The rule in RTO rules in Karnataka states that any vehicle which has been brought into the state from any other state and is being used regularly should be re-registered locally. And for the re-registration, the applicable road tax should be paid regardless of the original state of registration. A little while ago, the authorities also started a crackdown on public roads on normal vehicles as well, and a number of owners were handed over fines.
