We have come across several videos in the past where expensive cars have caught fire. In some cases people have lost their lives too. Today we have a video from Kerala where a BMW 3-Series luxury sedan which was in motion caught fire. The driver and passenger in the car luckily escaped unhurt.

The video is from Kerala’s Thrissur district. As per the video, the car caught fire near the Paliyekkara toll plaza in Thrissur. The car had just crossed the toll plaza when the owner noticed smoke or fire from under the car.

The driver stopped the car right after the toll plaza to check the vehicle. As soon as the occupants got out, the car caught fire, which started spreading to other parts. Initially, we see the fire just under the car. We also see smoke coming from under the bonnet.Locals arrived at the spot with water, but it was of no use.

The fire kept spreading. The owner or locals had called the fire brigade too. The fire continued spreading despite pouring water on the car and the flames. Within no time, the fire spread, and by the time the fire brigade arrived, the car was completely engulfed in flames.

The fire and rescue department doused the fire, but it was too late. The car was completely destroyed.

The fire had spread so much that even the fire brigade had to work hard to extinguish it completely. The video doesn’t share the cause of the fire. There are several reasons why it could have caught fire. The most common reason is a short circuit.

As we all know, there are several meters of wires and cables under the car. Even a small cut in any one of these wires can cause a short circuit. When you install an aftermarket accessory in a car, the wires may not handle the excess load and often become the cause of a short circuit.

To avoid such situations, it is always a good idea to get your car inspected at an authorized service center at regular intervals. It would also be wise to inspect the underbody of your vehicle, as dry leaves accumulated over time can also cause accidents.

If you are parking your car out in the open sun, ensure that you do not leave plastic bottles with water in them. These bottles act as magnifying glasses, concentrating the sun’s rays. These rays pass through the water and fall on plastic panels or seat covers inside the car. This can also cause a fire. Always ensure that you are not carrying flammable liquids or petrol in your car. This is also dangerous and can easily catch fire.

The BMW in this case was in motion, and we feel the driver and occupants were lucky enough to have escaped this incident unhurt. The vehicle is likely to be considered a total loss, as there is nothing left of it apart from the shell.
