High-speed crashes can be lethal. There are, however, times when vehicles ramming into one another at high speeds still keep their occupants safe. One such incident happened in Hyderabad recently when a BMW X1 crashed into an Ashok Leyland Bada Dost LCV. The SUV was completely destroyed in the crash. The occupants, however, survived with injuries.

A video shared on Instagram shows the aftermath of the crash. It is from Patancheru outer ring road and was recorded soon after the BMW hit the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV). The X1 seems to have been destroyed. The front end and parts of the driver’s cabin have taken significant damage. The airbags have all been deployed as well. Going by the video, the BMW had just the driver inside at the time of the crash.

Towards the beginning of it, the videographer goes to the driver who is still seated with minimal visible injuries and asks if he is ok. The driver seems to be awestruck and doesn’t respond to the questions. In fact, he is annoyed by the cameraman’s behaviour.

Then we get to see the videographer explain the incident and move to the other side to talk further with the driver and to ‘do his part in the rescue operations’ He offers to get in touch with the driver’s family over a call, which he ignores.

The video also shows the cameraman talking to the people around, giving them instructions on how to best do the rescue operations. The BMW driver was finally pulled out of the wreckage. He seems to have suffered injuries but sure made it out of the crash alive and without passing out.

The videographer also talks to the LCV’s driver about what happened. The mini-truck guy explains that the speeding BMW rear-ended his vehicle. People around also said that the SUV was carrying high speeds at the time of the crash. The truck did not take much damage- suggest the pictures. Thankfully, even the Bada Dost driver wasn’t hurt in the incident.

The Bada Dost is the higher payload sibling to Ashok Leyland’s top-selling Dost mini-truck. It is capable of carrying up to 1325 kilograms in payload and has a net GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) of 2990 kg. It is powered by a 1.5 L, 3 Cylinder Diesel Engine that produces 70 hp and 190 Nm. This is a turbocharged and intercooled engine.

Coming to the BMW X1, the SUV here seems to be an older generation model. Back in its day, the SUV used to come with two engine options- a 2.0L petrol and a 2.0L diesel. The diesel engine had 188 hp and 400 Nm on tap while the petrol could produce 189 bhp and 280 Nm. There used to be 4WD/AWD versions on offer as well.

Another BMW High-Speed Crash

In another horrifying incident, a brand new BMW i4 was involved in a high-speed crash. This crash happened near the Utkal Hospital, in the Maitri Vihar-Sailashree Vihar road. The speeding electric sedan hit the divider in Bhubaneswar, Odisha and took significant damage. The front bumper, wheels, and fenders were damaged. Here, minimal impact reached the cabin. The occupants walked out unhurt. The safety offered by BMW sedans deserves praise. The Maitri Vihar police soon showed up at the location and initiated a probe.
