Imagine walking down a familiar road when a massive crocodile shows up out of nowhere. You see is casually moving through the same road that you are on, unbothered by the awe of those around. This is exactly what happened in Mumbai, near the Powai Lake, this past Sunday. Locals and wildlife enthusiasts were both shocked by the strange occurrence. The reptile was found strolling near the IIT Bombay campus. One would hardly expect a crocodile to be out on the streets in an urban space like this.

Crocodile Spotted On Streets In Powai

The incident came to light after a video surfaced online, showing the crocodile making its way across a road near the Powai Lake. Normally, these reptiles stay within water bodies and rarely get out of them. It is thus strange to find them on the street, unless they have specific reasons to do so, and the same has left people concerned.

The residents nearby were initially amazed by the sight, and many filmed the incident. The reptile stayed on the road for some time and then returned to the lake. The reason for it getting out of the water body remains unknown.

Why Did the Crocodile Leave the Water?

Wildlife expert Pawan Sharma, founder of RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare), shared possible explanations for the crocodile’s unusual behaviour. According to a report by Times of India (TOI), the spotted crocodile may be a female searching for a safe nesting site to lay eggs. These reptiles often do this. However, it is uncommon for them to do this in busy spaces like a city! It could be the human activity that triggered the unusual behaviour.

Authorities Act Swiftly To Ensure Safety

As soon as the crocodile was spotted on the road, local authorities sprung into action and started monitoring the situation. The reptile did not pose an immediate threat. It seemed unbothered about the people around, stayed still for some time and eventually went back to the lake on its own. Wildlife officials reassured the public that the area was clear of any danger and that they would continue to keep a close watch there.

For now, the Powai Lake's crocodile is back in its watery home, but its brief city stroll has left a lasting impression on the community around.

Python Tries To Cross The Road; Interrupts Traffic

Previously in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, a massive 6 feet-long python which was trying to cross the road interrupted traffic. The huge snake was seen crossing the highway. Seeing it, a state bus stopped so as to not harm the animal. Other vehicles around also stopped in not time, so that both them and the reptile could be safe.

This incident happened late at night. The highway did not have dense traffic then, and this probably made the snake decide to get on the move. Such incidents are quite common in this area. Most drivers are kind to the wildlife around and exercise extra caution when driving through the place.

YouTuber Driving Mahindra Thar Almost Hits A Nilgai At Night!

In another incident, we saw a speeding YouTuber having a close call when a Nilgai suddenly jumped in front of his Mahindra Thar at night. Nilgai is the largest antelope in Asia and can weigh up to 200-odd kilos. He manages to avoid hitting the animal. A crash would have resulted in serious consequences.

It is always advised to drive slowly and carefully when amidst vegetation and wildlife, due to the unpredictable nature of animals around. Jungles can give you surprises and not all of them would be pleasant...
