Ponmudi is a hill station in Southern Kerala, known for its lush green cover, misty valleys and breathtaking views. Getting there from the state capital takes almost two hours. One needs to travel through winding roads and cover almost 22 hairpins just to get to the place. Instances of reckless driving on these roads by visiting tourists have become increasingly common these days. Another such incident has now come to light.

A video shared online shows a group of youngsters sticking their upper bodies out from a Black Hyundai Venue, while it is going uphill. The car seems to be doing a decent speed, and is likely climbing the hill. Four people can be seen standing through the open windows and sunroof of the vehicle.

They are shouting and merry-making as the car takes on the corners and hairpins of the place. There is enough body movement involved to potentially bring about a weight imbalance and make the car go out of control.

At some point in time, the person on the front passenger side is seen popping both his hands, upper body, head and even the left leg outside the car! The person standing through the open sunroof is shirtless and flexing his athletic body. He also has some sort of ornamental accessory around his neck. All of them are singing (rather 'yelling') and maybe even vibing to some song that's being played inside the car.

dangerous car stunt in ponmudi

Towards the end of the video, we get to see people doing the same in a car that's following the Venue as well. The two seem to belong to the same gang.

The road that they are on, is twisty but not deserted. You can see vehicles around and the dangerous acts of the four probably put these lives at risk as well. Ponmudi has been receiving heavy rainfall in the past few days. The monsoons usually hit this place so hard that travelling through these narrow winding roads itself becomes risky. You get compromised visibility and traction then.

Even in the video, it is clear that it is drizzling and the wet roads suggest that it already rained there, and hints at a potential drop in traction. Pulling off these stunts in such conditions is extra risky.

The vehicle involved in this case has the registration number 'KL 21 AA 5767'. It is a petrol-powered Hyundai Venue registered under Nedumangad RTO, Trivandrum.

Ford ikon dangerous stunt in ponmudi

This isn't the first time that we've come across acts of reckless driving and dangerous stunts in Ponmudi. Previously a few men were seen doing the same in an old Ford Ikon. They were seen sitting on the sedan's doors and sticking their bodies out. This again, was a dangerous act.

The police has been on the lookout for this vehicle. Reports suggest that the registration number of the IKON and the identity of the people involved remain unknown for now. The rumour has it that the vehicle was from Tamil Nadu and possibly had tourists from there.

Videos of both incidents sparked strong debates and diverse opinions among netizens. Some comments try to normalise the act, calling it 'their way of celebrating life' instead of a 'dangerous adventure' or an offence. Many, however, criticized the offenders strongly, and demanded immediate action from enforcement agencies.

More such cases have been reported in the area in the last six months. Locals have already voiced their concern about the same. The police will work together with the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) to track down these vehicles and book the offenders.
