DC-Design Hammer – What It Looks Like In Real Life

The popular Indian automotive designer Dilip Chhabria is known for creating some of the most unique cars. Some of his car designs have also been termed outlandish and are generally not seen on public roads. However, every once in a while, we see a DC-designed car on the road, and it looks extremely distinct. Recently, a few pictures of the DC-designed Mahindra Thar, called the DC Hammer, were seen parked on the side of a road.
These pictures of the DC Hammer Mahindra Thar have been shared on Reddit. From these pictures, we can note that this particular DC Hammer is based on the previous generation of the Mahindra Thar CRDe. At the front, we can note that the car has been given a completely new front fascia. It almost looks like the new Thar.
The main highlight of this front end is the massive front bumper. Interestingly, it has been painted in the Nardo Grey shade, which is the same shade as its body. This gives this SUV a more sophisticated appearance rather than the tough utilitarian look we are used to seeing a Thar in.
Apart from the bumper, we can also note that there are massive LED lights on the flared fenders. There is also a brand new seven-slat grille, and just underneath it, there are two additional projector headlights. The main headlight units have also been replaced with projector headlights. The bonnet is also completely new.
Coming to the side profile, we can note that this does not look like the first-generation Thar, which we are used to seeing. This SUV has been given all-new body panels with a much more modern design. The SUV in this Nardo Grey color scheme looks cool.
The door itself has been shortened, but it gets a black side step and two hinges that look distinctive. The rounded fender flares also add a lot of bulk to the otherwise skinny-looking first-generation Thar CRDe. We can also observe that the windows have been made sleeker as well.
This particular car has not been given custom aftermarket alloys. But this particular setup looks purposeful. Meanwhile, on the rear, the car gets a new set of LED taillights, and it also gets a spare tyre with a black wheel cover. The overall rear design looks similar to the new generation Thar.
As mentioned, this particular Thar is based on the previous generation model. This model was offered in three variants, namely the CRDe, Di 2WD, and Di 4WD. The Thar CRDe 4X4 came powered by a 2.5-litre CRDe engine. This engine generated 105 bhp and torque of 247 Nm.
It came mated to a 5-speed transmission, with a 2-speed four-wheel transfer case (Ratios – High 1.0:1 and Low 2.48:1). It also featured a Borg Warner manual shift for 4×4.
On the other hand, the Thar Di version came powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine that made 63 bhp of power and 182.5 Nm of torque. This engine also came mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and featured an optional Borg Warner manual shift for 4×4.
