Drag Race Gone Wrong: Toyota Fortuner Driver Loses Control And Topples SUV On Video
With people picking up social media content creation as a full-time job, we often come across videos of stunts and races on public roads. Almost everyone performing such stunts on the road is aware of the risks, but they still continue to do so. Such stunts and races often lead to accidents, and here we have a video that shows just that. In this video, a Toyota Fortuner involved in a drag race loses control and topples.
The video has been shared by Arun Panwar on his YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger, along with his friend, went to a closed road. This was actually a stretch with no vehicles, and they opted for this location to conduct their drag test. The vlogger and his friends brought two Toyota Fortuner SUVs.
One of them was the current version, a 2.8-liter turbo diesel model that generates 204 PS and 500 Nm of peak torque. The other Fortuner looked like a Legender, but it was actually a Type 2 Fortuner that had been neatly converted to resemble a Legender. The owner of the Legender can be heard saying that there were a few issues with the vehicle and that he was rectifying them one after the other.
The Fortuner that had been converted to a Legender uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates 169 Bhp and 343 Nm of peak torque. The owner of the Legender, for some reason, wanted to do a drag race and was extremely confident that his old Fortuner, which had been modified to look like a Legender, was powerful enough to beat the current version Fortuner.
The race started, and in all the rounds, the current-generation Fortuner was winning. There was at least a two-car gap between the SUVs. Both SUV owners finally agreed that the current-generation Fortuner is much more powerful. Even the owner of the older Fortuner confirmed that the current-generation model is much more refined and powerful than his old SUV.
However, the vlogger was not satisfied and felt that they were not pushing the old Fortuner to its limits. He finally decided to get behind the steering wheel. It should be noted that he was recording the video with one hand and driving the car with the other. This itself was dangerous. If he really wanted to record a POV of him driving, he could have used a chest mount for his camera.
He started driving the old Fortuner and pushed the car hard. As usual, the new Fortuner won the race, and the Fortuner driven by the vlogger was left behind. The vlogger kept pushing the car, and towards the end, he applied the brakes. As this was an old SUV, it didn’t have electronic aids like the current-generation model.
Under hard braking, the old Fortuner lost control, and before the vlogger could do anything, the SUV veered left and fell off the road. The SUV toppled and ended up lying on its driver’s side against the ground.
The vlogger and his friend, who was in the Fortuner, escaped unhurt. They had a Ford Endeavour at the spot and used a towing strap and the Endeavour to recover the vehicle. The SUV’s door, rear quarter glass, ORVMs, and roof were damaged. The vlogger was lucky that he and the occupant managed to escape the crash without any injuries. The engine oil and fluids from the radiator had all leaked.
It is because of these risks that we urge people not to get involved in such stunts or races on public roads. Even a small mistake can lead to major accidents. Thankfully, this was done on a closed road, and the SUV didn’t crash into any other vehicle or obstacle.
