Ed Sheeran Enjoys Scooter And Boat Ride with Arijit Singh in Jiaganj [Video]

British pop singer Ed Sheeran seems to have had a memorable and relaxed day in Jiaganj, Murshidabad. Unlike the chaos he faced from police in Bengaluru recently, Sheeran enjoyed a smooth and peaceful time in the quaint town of North Bengal with his ‘good friend’ and the celebrated Indian singer, Arijit Singh. The British pop sensation was seen riding a scooter through the streets along with Arijit. Pictures and videos of the same are now viral.
The two music icons kept their meeting simple and personal. Instead of high-profile parties or fancy cars, they chose to ride a scooter through Jiaganj’s busy streets and later took a boat trip on the Bhagirathi River.
Arijit, known for his humble lifestyle despite being one of India’s biggest singers, was seen riding the two-wheeler with Sheeran as the pillion. The vehicle in question appears to be a Yamaha Aerox. The duo should have been able to experience the everyday charm of Bengal’s countryside. They rode past Phulmore’s bustling roads and headed towards the serene banks of the Bhagirathi River. At Shibtala Ghat, they boarded a mechanized boat and spent an hour enjoying the peaceful waters and the sights of rural Bengal.
Many locals were taken by surprise when they spotted the two global stars riding through their hometown. Neha Singha Roy, a teacher at Ghugridanga Adivasi High School, was on a boat ride back home when she saw them.
“I immediately recognized Arijit Singh—he is our local boy! But with him was a foreigner, and from a distance, I couldn’t tell who it was. Later, when I searched online, I was shocked to realize it was Ed Sheeran!” she said.
She wasn’t the only one left amazed. Many people in Jiaganj and Murshidabad shared similar experiences, expressing their excitement over social media. Even the video shows locals puzzled and unable to recognize the English singer.
One fine day during his India tour, Sheeran decided to give his fans a surprise treat by busking on Bengaluru street. This impromptu street performance, however, went wrong. The four-time Grammy-winning artist did an acoustic version of his global hit ‘Shape of You’ in Church street! Fans showed up instantly and many found it hard to believe that this was for real.
Midway through the song, however, a cop killed the buzz by unplugging Sheeran’s guitar and microphone cables and asking him to shut down the performance. The singer got frustrated but was helpless. The cops later explained that Sheeran did not have the permission to perform on Church Street as the area is already infamous for its heavy-foot traffic and the performance would only make it worse.
Ed Sheeran and Arijit Singh first bonded in September 2023, when the Indian singer was performing in London. The two surprised fans by singing each other’s hits. Arijit sang the British pop star’s ‘Perfect’, and got massive applause for the same. Ed Sheeran even sang a few lines of the song ‘ Tum hi ho’ which made Arijit rise to fame.
Since then, the two have been good friends. Now, during his India tour, Sheeran took a break and visited Arijit’s hometown, Jiaganj, spending quality time with him. The visit was low-key and private. Sheeran spent over two hours at Arijit’s house.
He chose to keep security away and roam around like a layman. Murshidabad SP Surya Kumar Yadav confirmed that Arijit did not request personal security for Sheeran but only asked the police to ensure law and order, considering Sheeran’s celebrity status. “We ensured that everything remained under control.” the officer said.
Despite being one of the most successful playback singers in India, Arijit Singh remains deeply connected to his roots. He spends much of his time in Jiaganj with his family, away from the hustle of Bollywood. His simple lifestyle and down-to-earth nature are well-known among his fans.
After his peaceful time in Jiaganj, Sheeran performed at Shillong’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on February 12. This show amassed huge public interest and appreciation.
