While electric vehicles are gaining popularity in India, there are a few challenges that EV owners are still facing. Most of it has to do with the charging infrastructure. We have reported on several occasions about how EV owners who live in high-rise apartments have been facing issues with charging their EVs. Many apartment associations have even denied permission to install chargers. Here we have one such instance where an EV owner got a charger installed in his parking lot despite facing a ban from the management.

The video has been shared by Car Tech Travel on his Instagram page. In this video, the vlogger mentions how he was denied permission to install an EV charger at his own parking spot in the apartment complex. The vlogger decided to challenge the decision and raised a few questions with the management.

As usual, the discussion caught attention in the apartment’s WhatsApp group, where everyone came forward with one or another ridiculous reason for not installing the charger. Some said it is a safety hazard, while others said it can’t be done without offering any explanation at all.

When the owner of the EV realized that the discussion wasn’t going anywhere, he did a bit of research on his end and found that as per the government circular, none of the apartment complexes can actually deny an EV owner from installing a charger.

After doing his research, the EV owner took the government circular to the president of the apartment welfare association, and once the president saw it, he had no choice but to cave in. He finally allowed the customer to install an electric vehicle charging station in his own parking lot. The customer mentions that he had to pay around Rs 20,000 to get the charger installed for the additional wiring required while installing the charger. Apart from that, he has not spent anything else.

This way, he can now charge the vehicle at his own parking lot without actually making any makeshift connections or using extension cords. The units that he will use to charge the vehicle will be billed to the domestic meter installed by the owner in his apartment.

The video ends with a note where the vlogger says that the president of the society has now come forward asking which EV he should buy. While this may seem like a welcome change to many, there is a small issue hidden in this method.

If many people start using EVs and install chargers in their parking lots, it is going to overload the system, and societies may experience power cuts as they will be drawing more power than what is sanctioned. Most people who own an EV will charge their cars at night, and that will cause inconvenience to other users, especially during summers.

In order to avoid this, we feel it would be a good idea for every high-rise apartment complex to come up with a solution like a common charging station for all EV owners instead of having a dedicated parking lot charger. This way they can control the power consumption and also offer EV owners a reliable solution.
