With surveillance cameras installed by the police department in almost all cities, people are forced to follow rules as they are afraid of e-challans. However, a father and son duo from Nagpur came up with a plan to ensure that they never faced issues with the system. They used fake number plates on their car to avoid challans. An FIR has now been registered against the owners after the issue came to light.

The father and son duo, who own this Mercedes-Benz GLA luxury car, have been identified as Harish Devicharan Tiwari (50) and Yash Harish Tiwari (25). Both of them are residents of Pragatisheel Colony on Wardha Road, Nagpur.

They owned a Mercedes-Benz GLA luxury car with a registration number MH31EX 9993. Yash allegedly replaced the original number plate on the SUV with a fake one. The fake registration number MH 02 DZ 5061 belonged to a car owned by Harneet Manjeet Singh Arora, a resident of Mira Road, Mumbai.

Yash and his father used the Mercedes with fake plates in Nagpur, and they often violated traffic rules. As they were using a fake number plate, the fine was usually sent to Mr. Arora in Mumbai. Arora noticed that Mr. Tiwari and his son had violated traffic rules at least four times in Nagpur. Mr. Arora had never driven his car in Nagpur, and that’s when he noticed the issue.

The scam was uncovered recently when Surendra Pagare, a traffic constable from the Sonegaon Division, noticed the same Mercedes with fake plates parked near Poonam Mall at Alankar Square. This was probably a no-parking zone, which gave the officer a reason to check the registration number and details.

When the officer ran the registration number online, it showed Mr. Arora as the owner. The officer got the contact details and spoke to him as well. That’s when the officer realized that the actual car with this registration was still parked at Arora’s home in Mumbai.

Soon after this, Mr. Tiwari and his family arrived at the spot and claimed that the vehicle belonged to them. When the officer asked for documents, the owner called his son, who didn’t have clear answers. The officer contacted his seniors, and the car was towed away from the parking spot.

The next day, the owner of the car produced documents which confirmed that the original number of the vehicle was different from the one seen on the car. It was clear that Tiwari and his son had intentionally replaced the original number plate with fake ones to escape from the authorities and fines.

Following a complaint by Constable Pagare, a case was registered at Bajaj Nagar Police Station. Mr. Arora, who is the actual owner of the vehicle with this number, was surprised to learn that he had received two challans for overspeeding in Nagpur.

When he realized that these challans were not for his vehicle but from someone who was misusing his vehicle registration, he went ahead and filed a complaint with the Kashimira Traffic Division in Mumbai.
