Toyota Fortuner Crosses River With Entire Family In It: Should You Do It? [Video]

Toyota is popular among customers around the world for its reliability, and we have featured several examples on our website that prove the same. We have come across several videos where Toyota vehicles refuse to die even after constant abuse. In India, we have cars like the Toyota Fortuner and Innova, which are synonymous with the word reliability. Here, we have a video where a fully loaded Toyota Fortuner SUV is crossing a river effortlessly.
The video has been shared by Rushlane Crashlane on their Facebook page. In this video, we see a video being recorded from one side of the river, with a Toyota Fortuner on the other side. The video pans right, and the Toyota Fortuner slowly drives into the river. It looks like a place where people usually do water crossings, as there are mud tracks on both sides.
The water level in the river looks high, and the Fortuner starts moving across the river. The water level is clearly over the bumper, and a portion of the grille is also covered in water because of the wave the car is making as it pushes the water away.
The Fortuner continues to go ahead effortlessly, and it is only towards the end of the video that we realize the Fortuner seen here is actually loaded with passengers and their items. All three rows of seats in the Fortuner have passengers in them. In fact, the middle row has at least three, if not more, people sitting on it.
The Toyota Fortuner effortlessly wades through the river and gets to the other side. Apart from the people inside the car, there was luggage in the boot of the car as well. It definitely looked cool in the video, but should you actually do it?
If you ask us, we would not recommend anyone attempt such stunts, especially when the car is loaded like in this case. It is possible that the route the Fortuner driver took is usually used by locals to commute, but one should always expect the worst in such situations and try not to risk the lives of the occupants.
If the Toyota Fortuner had stalled in the middle of the river, water would have easily gotten into the cabin, and rescuing people might have been a task. It doesn’t look like a river with too much undercurrent or heavy flow, but it is always good to play it safe. Especially when you are with your family.
Coming to the Toyota Fortuner, this was actually a cakewalk for the SUV. We have seen people drive Toyotas through rough terrains and close to active volcanoes in the past. Compared to those, this river crossing was nothing.
This was a stock Fortuner, and while the risk of the engine getting hydro-locked was there, the SUV has been engineered in such a way that it can handle a bit of off-roading even in its stock form.
Reliability is one of the major factors why the Fortuner is the king of this segment, even after so many years since its launch. It still does not offer many premium features that its rivals provide. Despite a steep price, the popularity of the Fortuner doesn’t go down because it has created a niche for itself in the segment.
